Caitlyn POV

I opened my mouth too say something, just to shut it again without having said anything. James gently pushed me and nodded. ‘Hey, dad.’ I said. my father walked up to me and hugged me. When he let me go again I could’ve sworn he had tears in his eyes. But before I could have a good look he turned to James. ‘Alpha Mahon.’ He greeted James, holding his hand out. ‘Alpha Morris.’ James replied shaking his hand. ‘Sorry for driving you over, sir.’ He continued bluntly. Dad laughed and said: ‘Don’t be bothered. I‘ve had worse blows to my head.’

I smiled and picked up Carl. He hugged me, while Cody started talking: ‘Daddy, where have you been. We had to go and live with the witch who would hurt Cat, and she made my leg hurt for almost a year and then we moved over and over again and I didn’t like that, but now we live here and Jay promised to protect us.’ He just summarized the two worst years in my life in one sentence. ‘Who hurt you!?’ Dad’s boomed as he yelled out. ‘The witch.’ Cody repeated a bit straddled. Dad looked at me.

I swallowed. ‘Mom did.’ I whispered looking down. ‘What did he mean by hurt?’ Dad questioned. ‘She broke his leg. It took four days to heal, because she wouldn’t let me take him to the pack doctor.’ I said. ‘She hurt Caty too.’ Carl brought in. I blushed. James was shaking next to me eager to shift and hunt whoever dared to hurt his mate. I gave him a glare warning him to control himself. ‘What did she do to you?’ Dad asked taking my attention from James. ‘Not much.’ I lied, but Cody interrupted me. ‘The witch would hit and kick her.’ He said, Carl nodded and said: ‘Sometimes the ambulance came with lights and lots of noise.’ ‘Once she slept for six weeks after that. We thought she would die too.’ Cody told them. Dad was fuming with anger and I almost got scared. ‘I wasn’t.’ Carl said. ‘Caty would never leave us.’ I hugged him softly and looked at my father. ‘Where have you been?’ I asked.

The anger seemed to flow away. ‘I was held captive by Demons who enjoyed seeing werewolves fight. You remember the call I got before I disappeared? It was my lawyer I had hired to fight the custody case your mother had opened. He asked me to meet him somewhere and when I got there someone drugged me and when I woke up I was inside a silver cage. I would get food with some sort of drugs through it, that would make me lose sight on reality. Once a day I was brought to a ring to fight. They used the drugs so they could transport me to the ring without me escaping. When I realized it I stopped eating and indeed the next day I escaped. I have been a prisoner there for one and a half year. When I was free I started on the journey homewards. But the camp was in the middle of a jungle, so I hadn’t eaten. Only if I could steal food I ate. The last three week I hadn’t eaten until the doctor gave me some food ’

I sat down shocked and surprised off al the things I had thought off this wasn’t one of them. ‘And all this time I though of what a fool I was for not taking the time to finish my sentence. Caitlyn, honey. I truly regretted not waiting for my mate. But you’re the best outcome a mistake could ever have. If I had a choice to change anything I would pass. You’re the best daughter someone could wish for. I felt bad when I heard you have dyscalculia, but not out off shame, I could never be ashamed of you. I felt bad for you cause I knew how hard you had work to get good grades for math and never got them. And the day I got captured I felt angry, because I realised you had just given up.’ Tears started to fall as I hugged him. I heard Carl objecting, because he was still in my arms. James gently lifted him of off my arm and took the boys to the couch handing them both a Nintendo to play with. ‘I missed you, Daddy.’ I whispered. He hugged me and lifted me of the ground. ‘Missed you too my little Cat.’

An hour later the boys laid in there beds and Dad, James and I talked in the living room of my house. ‘Who leads my pack now.’ Dad asked. Peter and Michael would keep it together till Cody was old enough. What brings me to this. The boys don’t know they are shifters. I didn’t know how to tell them.’ Dad nodded. He looked at his hands and sighed. ‘I can’t go back to how things once where. I know. But what do we do now?’ I bit my lip and looked at James for support. ‘I stay here with my mate.’ I said. dad nodded he didn’t expect differently. ‘But I..’ I swallowed. I couldn’t believe I was saying this. ‘I do think its best if the boys go with you. I just can’t take care of them properly.’ I said as tear filled my eyes by the idea of them leaving me.

‘We can’t do that right away. It would traumatise them, not to speak of Cat herself.’ James said. I gave him a thankful smile and got a hold of myself. Dad opened his mouth, but instead of talking, closed it again and seemed lost in thought. Suddenly he said: ‘Look the school year had just begun. If they stay with me during the breaks and perhaps if you want too you could come too, and they could move for always in the summer.

I thought and nodded. I got up and accidently kicked James. ‘Hey, watch out.’ He called out using his alpha voice. I held my head low, though I would rather hit him for yelling at me. I knew I showed in my eyes so I kept my face down. He laughed and grabbed my chin. ‘And why do I have the idea you only look away to hide your rebellion.’ He said amused. I looked at him and smiled. ‘I was trying to hide my desire to hit you.’ I said. He laughed lifted me of the floor and kissed me.

Suddenly the phone rang. I picked up the phone and said my name. ‘Caitlyn, this is your mother.’ The cold voice said. my eyes searched the room and I relaxed as my eyes met James. ‘what do you want?’ I asked. ‘I’m just letting you know I started a procedure to get you home. You are not aloud to live by yourself until you are eighteen.’ She said. ‘Well then I go live with dad till then, bye.’ I said, before hanging up the phone.

‘That was mom.’ I said, as I hung up the phone.

‘Am I the only one who thinks its strange that your mother files a custody battle and that she threatens to loose, your father disappears. I mean why if she hates children would she want you so badly.’ James asked. Dad pressed his hands against his face  and said: ‘She want her because of the prophecy.’
