Upon exiting the elevator, Chica released Monty's arm, a cheery smile replaced with a frown. She walked quickly, tension ghosting every step. Monty watched her as she swung open the doors to the court, nearly breaking them in her haste.
"Chica?" Monty called out, voice filled with concern, "Are ya alright?"
She paused from grabbing the needed supplies, turning to face her bandmate holding a hefty bag out to him.
"Course I am." Smile plastered onto her face as she spoke, "Why do you ask?"
Monty took the offered item with one claw, the other scratching his chin.
"Well," he started, "Sides the fact yer eyes twitchen all crazy like, ya seem real...frustrated." He halted, trying to locate the right words.
Her eyes widened in shock, unaware she'd been covering her emotions so incompetently.
"I-I promise, I'm fine okay. Let's just focus on setting up before the others arrive." She stuttered, avoiding his gaze.
Staring for a moment before replying, "Alright feathers, 'ah won't pry but if ya wanna talk..."
"Thanks, Monty, I do appreciate it, honest." Offering a small smile, "But stop calling me feathers."
Monty smirked, "Never...feathers," laughing at her exasperation, only to be punched lightly in the shoulder.
"Ohh the pain, such a cruel bird lady." He clutched his arm, face scrunched in mock agony.
Chica scoffed, but now she at least had a smile on her beak as the two quickly finished setting up for the little tournament.
By the time preparations were complete, the stragglers showed up, Roxanne glaring, ears back as she growled with annoyance. Freddy offered his teammate an awkward shrug, obviously not thrilled with the situation either.
"Okay, " Chica shrilled clapping her hands together, "Let's play. Losers buy the winners pizza for a month."
"But, we don't even need to eat..." Freddy muttered.
"Yea well we have plenty of other unnecessary desires, Freddy. Pizza just happens to help fill some of them." She claimed, head tilted forward, crossing her arms.
"Girl you just want an excuse for free pizza, which you get from the garbage daily anyways." Roxy snickered, hunched, her hand grasping her stomach.
"Tch." Chica stomped, "Screw you, Roxanne, at least I'm trying better myself." She was fuming, normally smooth feathers puffing up from the comment.
Snapping towards her counterpart, "What!? You think I'm not trying." Her eyes burned, "You think you're easy? Well, I hate to break it to ya but you are the exact opposite of easy."
The two looked ready to tear each other apart, sensing the obvious tension Freddy placed himself between them.
"Okay guys, relax. Let's just play some bowling, winner buys FRESH pizza for a month, alright?"
Still shooting daggers, both backed down, reluctant nodding accompanied by grumbles of agreement.
The games went rather uneventfully, they were down to the final rounds, Roxanne and Freddy slowly pulling into the lead. Chica couldn't stop glaring, grip tightening around her ball.
"Chica," She jumped as Monty placed a hand on her narrow shoulder, "Ya gotta relax before ya snap that thing in two. Which is easier than you'd think, trust meh'." He spoke calmly, but worry filled his eyes.
She sighed, placing the ball into a runner, conflicted and staring up at her teammate.
"Trouble in paradise?" Monty questioned, head cocked. She eyed him cautiously, the gator not known for his empathy. Yet, there was no malice in his voice, just furrowed brows and ruby eyes full of concern. Chica looked away towards her partner, beak trembling as she tried to remain composed.
"Ah shit, don't cry. Sorry 'ah brought it up." Alarmed, he quickly removed his hand from her back.
Turning back towards the gator, Chica raised her hand, shaking her head.
"N-no, it's okay. Your only trying to help..." Her voice tremored, taking a deep breath she continued, "It's just...Roxanne."
Monty nodded, listening closely but remaining quiet.
"We got into a bit of a fight earlier, I mean it happens but..." she paused, wrenching her fingers, "She said some things, and it-...it hurt. I can take some mean comments, comes with the job, plus I'm real tough ya know." Monty offered her a smile, agreeing with the statement.
"I just...didn't expect something like that from her," tears welling up in her eyes, "I love her, damnit. So much, but she took it too far this time."
Blinking, trying desperately to hold herself back from the brink of despair.
Monty opened up his arms, silently offering her much-needed comfort. Without hesitation she collided into his chest, metal bodies thudding softly upon contact, and squeezed him tight. He gripped her back, patting her shoulder as she released quiet whimpers and sobs, whispering to the avian it would be alright.
After a moment, Chica pulled back from his embrace, wiping her eyes she smiled up at him.
"Thanks, Monty, I needed that.""No problem feathers." The use of the nickname resulted in a slap to the head, she grumbled but wasn't angry. Her eyes sparkled with amusement as he rubbed the back of his neck,
"Let's get back to it, still need to kick their ass and earn some 'oh that well-deserved pizza."
She clapped in agreement turning to pick up her discarded ball.
Freddy had watched their interaction, irritation clawing at his wiring.
Mine-
How dare she touch what's mine-
He began to growl, low and deep, but quiet enough to remain undetected by the others. All except Roxanne, sensitive ears perking at the noise.
"The hell," She turned towards him, brows furled in confusion, "What's with you bear?"
Freddy remained silent, eyes locked elsewhere. She followed his gaze to catch the tail end of the others display. Her eyes narrowed, maddened by the fact that Chica wasn't touching her instead.
"See I can rightfully say that pisses me off, but what's up your ass bear boy?" She spat, turning back to her bandleader.
Lie~
"Frankly Roxanne, I'd like to figure out what you did to upset her like that." He turned his harsh gaze towards the wolf, hand landing on his waist. "I hate seeing her so upset, it's abnormal."
Technically the truth-
The canine clenched her fists, snarling at the accusation, "I didn't do nothin', Freddy, don't go accusing me!"
Freddy glowered, pausing before draining his face of emotion, taking a heavy step towards her, finger pressed against her chest.
"Don't lie to me Roxanne, she was fine when I saw her earlier. Ecstatic even...because she was going to see YOU." His finger pressed harder, nail chipping paint, his words laced with venom.
Roxanne froze, as pissed as she was she couldn't bring herself to speak, the bear eyes were devoid of...everything. It felt wrong, fear pricked her spine.
"I-I," She shook her head, refusing to back down, she straightened, ears flattening, " I didn't do anything dammit! How bout YOU come out and admit the real reason your glaring daggers at MY girl!" She snarled, voice raising as she leaned in closer, exposing her fangs.
His head snapped, ears thrumming-
"I don't have to tell you anything. Bitch." He retorted, gripping her arm, their faces a nose length apart, vents hissing with scalding air.
