Tris POV

Welcome home.

Tobias helps me out of the net. I remember the first time I did that. I remember feeling alive and free. I remember feeling truly Dauntless.

I smile at Tobias. "Hello, there, first jumper." I say.

"That's why you forced me to jump?" I nod. "I love you, you know."

"I love you, too." As if on cue Kat screams and hits the net.

Today we get to start over. We can teach them the right way, and maybe this time we will learn the error of our ways. It is then, with that single thought, that I realize that I am their instructor. This is their initiation. I am their teacher.

Don't be like Eric, I think to myself. Protect them.

**********

Once everyone is down Tobias and I face the pack of wild dogs that need to be trained. I remember when I was one of them.

"Listen up!" Tobias yells, and all chatter fades. "The next time you face Marcus and Jeanine, it won't be in a prison cell while you are locked up in chains. It will be out their, on the battlefield. That's why you are here. So you can get ready to fight. So that when we face them we won't be the once going down.

"So, for the next few weeks you will be under training. It will be brutal and difficult. We will push you to your breaking points, and when you come back out you may never be the same again. And if that scares you then you can leave because you won't make it, and you will be taken. Understood?"

They nod. "Get ready."

**********

We all stand in the training room with the target in front of us. We thought it would be better to start them off with something less barbaric. Shooting and knife throwing seemed like the best way to do that.

"Listen up! I'm Tris! I'll be one of your instructors during training. Pay attention as Four demonstrates the correct way to throw a knife."

Just then I hear a snicker coming from Chloe, one of the new girls. "Four like the number?" She asks when she realizes that Tobias and I are staring.

Big mistake.

"Exactly like the number. Is there a problem?" He asks in his scary initiate instructor voice. Shit! It's Christina all over again!

"You don't scare me." She says.

Tobias turns around and throws two knives at the same time and both hit the target dead center.

He leans in close. "You should." He says and he whispers something else in her ear, something I can't quit make out. "Begin!" He shouts.

The rest of the day drags on slowly, and after dinner the trainees go back to the old initiates dorms, along with Peter who needs to relearn everything, and Tobias and I go back to his apartment. As his arms wrap around me I drift off the sand way I fell in love with him. Slowly and then all at once.

**********

I am sitting in a white room, and I have this horrid ringing in my ears. It stops when I see my dad. I know I am dreaming, but I don't care. I just run up to him, cry, and pull him into my embrace. I smile.

He pulls me back. "You killed your family, Beatrice."

"What?" I ask, my voice shaking.

"You killed your mother, then me, and then your brother. You are a disgrace. I am very disappointed in you."

"I'm your daughter." I say.

"My daughter would not murder her own family, Beatrice. You are no longer a Prior." I cry. I have lost the love of my family. Then I realize, that if I had not gotten myself caught by Jeanine my mother would not have need to save me. She would be alive. If I had not brought my father to Dauntless, he would not have gotten shot. He would not have died. If I had forgiven Caleb he would not have felt obligated to regain my love and trust. He would not have gone into the weapons lab.

I killed them. Me. I did. "I'm sorry."

"You killed us!" He is shouting now. I sink to my knees. I cry even harder. "You killed us!"

"I killed you. I killed my family."

"You killed us!"

I jump up and feel sweat rolling down my neck and back.

"Tris." Tobias says sympathetically.

"I'm sorry I woke you, Tobias. Go back to bed."

"You were talking in your sleep again. You did not kill your family."

"I might as well have."

"Tris! You did not kill them. It's not your fault. Okay?"

"Okay." He wraps his arms around me, and I drift off into a deep sleep.

A/N: Hey everybody! I know that this is not the best chapter, but give me a break! I decided to write this last minute, so I had no time ahead to plan! Next chapter will be better I promise!
