Tris POV

I sit in silence by the railing that overlooks the Chasm. Then I feel a hand on my shoulder. I turn to see Christina.

"I don't want to talk about it, Chris." Christina has been asking me about the deaths of Emma, Regina, and Henry. I don't feel like talking about that. I don't feel like anything. I feel responsible. I don't want this blood on my hands.

"I know. I want to show you something." She says as she pulls me up onto my feet.

I follow her outside the compound.

"Where are we going?"

"To visit a buddy at Erudite," she says. I give her a questioning look. Besides Cara and Caleb, we hated the Erudite so much that we would never socialize with them. So what is she talking about? Cara is back at Dauntless and Caleb died at the Bureau. We don't know anyone else at Erudite.

"You'll see!" She shouts in a cheery peppy voice.

After a while of running we reach the train tracks, just in time, too. I can hear it in the distance. It's faint, though. It could have as easily been a gust of wind. But I would know that sound anywhere.

I love the sound of the Dauntless train. It sounds like the Dauntless calling me to them. Calling me to come home. I hear it, close my eyes, and smile.

When I open them again the train is closer to us and so Christina and I start running.

I swing myself in, followed by Christina, and we sit in silence. Unsure of who we will encounter, I dare not break it. Instead I listen to the whistle of the train.

****

Christina and I get ready to jump after a while. When my feet hit the ground at first I expect the impact to break me. I expect that the force should shatter me into a million pieces. I'm surprised that I didn't scream at all.

Christina and I keep walking towards Erudite, but I feel that inertia is dragging me back-telling me to go to Dauntless. But something else, something much more powerful, is telling me to keep moving. That going to Erudite will be a good thing.

I can resist this Dauntless inertia. I must. I need to. I am. I keep moving.

Soon we are in the room where they held me when they thought it was a traitor after conspiring with Marcus. It is in that moment, with that horrible memory, that I realize why Christina brought me here.

She pulls out the Resurgent serum.

"I know the two of you were friends. And we need another badass solider if we want to win this war. Not that anyone's more badass then me, though," she says smugly. She gives the serum to me and I smile at her gratefully.

"Thanks, Chris."

I press the plunger into her neck and she wakes up.

I smile and say; "Hey Lynn."
