Adult life is hard and that is coming from a still seventeen-year-old girl. I always wondered how it will be when I grow up, dreaming about having a great job, house, car and some other adult stuff. Reality, on the other hand, is not so simple as that, which is the reason why I am sitting here. Conference room number two in the Mom+Pop Studios headquarters. A white room twice as big as our flat's living room with a massive table in the middle of it surrounded with chairs and plants in every corner. There were plaquettes from a bunch of artists decorating each wall and a modern art painting called 'Poor Artist' and I never related to a painting more in my life. I was sitting on the left of the table and was facing the wall made of widows with a street view. Our manager, Lilybeth, was sitting at the top of the table with a man who played a key part in our life for the past months. Mr Aaron Peterson. A forty-year-old businessman specialising in real estate whose beard was bigger than Buckingham Place and so was his ego.
"Thank you for your cooperation in this project. As the contract says you can move to your house in the beginning of May. Hopefully, you'll be satisfied with it. In case of any further questions or problems do not hesitate to contact my secretary." Aaron was an employee of the Mom+Pop label providing them houses, flats or any kind of accomodation that was needed for their artists. Our manager told us about this opportunity when we shared our problems with finding the right lodging with her. Our label was quick with giving us options for great houses even with recording equipment. There was one amazing house in NYC and everything about him was like a cut out from a movie although we knew it would get us in a huge debt so we chose a different one. It was smaller, a little bit less dreamy and more practical as Harriet's father would say. We promised them it would make us more productive in the album making process which somehow turned into promising the new album would be done at the end of this year.
"This was either the best that we could do or the worst." Said Olivia with a smug grin when Aaron left the room leaving us with our thoughts.
"Let's look at it from the bright side," we all looked at our manager waiting for the big positive thing, "it's definitely better than your first contract." I have to smile and so did the others.
"You are right. We'll see how much of a good idea it was and then we will blame Veronica for not stopping us as she is the most mature one of us all." I said.
Vee looked at me with a frown and her mouth open, "me? Harriet was the one that talked us into this."
"Don't bring me into your fights Vee." Harriet answered and Vee just sat down on her chair defeated while we laughed. Julie, known for being the only good soul in this group, hugged her with pity but we all could see she was hiding her smile.
Our band was now in a good place even if we were in a time full of stress, SATs were in a month, we made two big contracts in the past few months, and were trying to find our place in the world. The Popsicles were stronger than ever and ready to make new smash hits along the way.
"If we are done making fun of Vee then we should probably head out if we don't want to get stuck in New York traffic." I pointed out and we all headed out saying goodbye to Lilybeth at the entrance and we hopped on to Harriet's car. She was driving with Liv in the passenger seat, Vee, Julie and I sat in the back.
"What did you say about the traffic Kate?" Liv asked me. We were stuck in one long ass traffic for about ten minutes now.
"I really thought we could make it....however I think it's Veronica's fault because she didn't tell us to leave earlier." I could hear her sigh as she threw her hands in disbelief when we laughed.
"You know I want to thank Vee for it because now we have time to discuss my birthday party." Livi's statement was followed by 'no' from each of us, desperate mumbling and protesting.
