I sat down on the wet pavement behind the studio. Darkness had overtook the city a long time ago but the lights were persistent at protecting it from the exact same thing. It was some time since it rained in New York City not to mention a pouring rainstorm. The air was somehow bearable although I could still smell some funky odour even if we were on the outskirts of the city. I started feeling my trousers getting damp. Maybe it was not the best idea to sit down after all, even though my feet ached from standing the whole day.
"I told you, they cancelled it at the last minute."
"So we're their last hope," said Harriet on the other side of the phone.
"Yeah, you'll be the saviours, the heroes, whatever you want if you agree to this," I pleaded hoping it would persuade her, "we have to shoot it tomorrow to stay on track with the schedule." She made some sort of noise and I only hoped it meant she was reconsidering the idea.
The thing was the production had hired a local band to perform at the last scene. Everything would work out perfectly if they all did not fell sick. They got food poisoned. A wave of panic flew through the set when we got the information. For every situation that could occur there was a plan B, however, this was the only one where they bet all their money on one horse that did not even make it to the race.
Someone suggested to get some instruments and let the extras play them but it did not go well through the director. That was when I shot my shot with The Popsicles making an appearance and to my surprise everyone agreed to it. Nevertheless there was one little problem. My bandmates were clueless of what I got them into.
"It could get us some recognition if the show does well," she admitted.
"I think it's a good idea," said a voice in the background which I guessed belonged to Veronica. If she thought it was a good idea then it would get through our manager as well. "I'm going to rig Lilybeth," she added.
I waited on the other side of the phone in case of any question regarding our situation. Would she let us go with it? There was a scheduled meeting for tomorrow with some important people. I would not be able to attend that was one member but the whole group not showing up was something different.
Something little and wet landed on my cheek. I looked up and saw some raindrops fall down. Nothing violent just this gentle summer shower. I put the hood of my sweatshirt over my head and stood up. I should probably head back inside but my feet did not make any movement. So I stayed glued to one spot waiting.
There was a silence, then two voices of people talking and a third one got involved along the way. I noticed Harriet stayed quiet the whole time until she shared the good news with me.
"She said yes," echoed through the phone as happiness warmed my body, "even if it's a small appearance it could be worth it." I squealed in excitement. There will be some details to figure out but they had a replacement which was the only thing that mattered for now.
I hung up the phone and noticed there was a person standing next to me, "How long have you been here?
"Just as long to hear that little plan of yours worked," Harrison answered. He was holding an umbrella above both of us. I nodded still in slight shock. "Are you done for today?" amusement in his voice.
I nodded again,"I just need to tell them the good news as well and will be free to go."
"I'm gonna wait for you," he stated when I headed towards the building.
The studio was not as empty as I imagined it would be at this time. It was even more crowded than any other day I could remember. People were sliding from side to side moving smaller or bigger things. I nearly got hit by a massive piece that seemed to resemble a tree. What for we needed it I had no idea, but it was not my place to question these things.
