I got the feeling I was being watched. I could not explain how I knew it, I simply did even if I was soundly asleep. It took my sleepy mind a while to process and deliver the demant to my eyes and to fight the heaviness of my eyelids. Once I opened them I was greeted by the sight of a familiar face too close to mine. She was so close I could feel her breath on my cheeks.
"Fucking finally!" Olivia's voice nearly destroyed my ability to hear. What a great way to start a day.
"Good morning to you, too." I painstakingly sat up on my bed trying not to let myself fall asleep again. Last night's shoot went on well into today's morning and I came home drained of all energy and I did not feel recharged even now. The only thing that kept me alive in that moment was curiosity. Why was she waking me up knowing all of the information above?
"Do you have any idea how long I've been staring at you?" I rubbed my, still not fully opened, eyes only to see another three figures standing around my bed next to Olivia.
"What's going on?" I furrowed my brows in confusion. They were all staring at me with expectation in their eyes. Fear crept up my spine. Did I forget about something important? They were still silent. Did I? I could not come up with anything but I knew one thing for sure. I was fully awake at that moment. "I-," My mind was working at the speed of light on the best apology that would save me. However, before I could form anything a loud noise interrupted me.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Julie with Olivia threw a bunch of confetti on me, Harriet started playing 'Happy Birthday' on a kahoot and Veronica gave me a little cake with a candle all while they were singing to me. I sat there in awe with my mouth agape and eyes wide open. I did not know what to focus on first. I was still a bit in shock from the abrupt wake up technique and then this...uh...this...I did not know if a word existed to describe this thing that happened.
"Make a wish." Veronika motioned towards the cake. I blew the candles still in trance a bit although I was coming to myself little by little.
"What did you wish for?" Julie asked, sitting down beside me on the bed.
"Why are you asking her that? You know it will not be fulfilled if she tells us." Vee said. She had this huge knife in her hand and compared to the cake it was a hilarious thing to look at.
"I can't wrap my head around the fact that you out of all people believe that nonsense."
"I don't think it's a good idea to deconstruct Vee's rationality when she is holding that big ass knife in her hand." Harriet warned Julie. "But I bet she is dying of curiosity right now as well."
"Remember I still have the big ass knife in my hand, Harriet." Vee responded without looking up from cutting the cake.
"I wished for our new album to be successful." I said with a smile on my face.
"Great, our next album will be a disaster." Said Vee. She handed me a piece of the cake with a smile and then proceeded to give a piece to everyone else as well.
"Nonsense. This album will be the greatest of all time. I can feel it in my bones." Liv jabbered in excitement and she nearly gave the floor the taste of her cake.
"Really?" Harriet gave her a look. "I'm pretty sure you felt it in your bones with the last one too and we've all seen how that turned out."
"I was young and stupid then, but now-"
"You are just stu-?"
"Don't even try to finish that sentence!" Liv warned me and if stares could kill I would be dead by ten thousand different deaths at that moment. She stuffed her mouth with the cake trying to avoid any eye contact with me. I laughed a little at her childish behaviour and made my way to the opposite side of the bed and gave her a big hug. "Your only luck is that it's your birthday." She gave me a pat on my head.
