The sun was setting down. I watched it as it was getting more and more hidden behind the skyscrapers of New York City. The sky was painted with shades of orange, pink and purple. The perfect harmony of colours that only nature could melt together which put any work from even the most talented artist to shame. Clouds were forming alongside as drops of spilled milk on a canvas. Peace filled my mind as I watched it with astonishment. A few lights were already lit up in the buildings around us. I was sure that I would be hearing all of the birds chirping if it was not for the bustling sounds of the city. Despite the hour, New York sounded as if it just woke up and was preparing for the real business that happened only when the natural light was replaced with the one from the sparkling big screens and flashing signs.
"Okay. The sun will set down in a few minutes which means it's time for the last scene." I turned around to take my place between Julie and Vee, Liv was standing on the other side and Harriet sat behind us with her drum kit. Breath in. Breath out. Bass in my hand. "And action!" The music started playing. I looked at my friends standing beside me all full-focused but smiling. I could have felt myself getting serotonin just from a simple glance of them being happy. A smile appeared on my face as well. I could not recall how many times I had already sung this song today although I knew this would be my last time for now and despite the weariness in my eyes I gave the performance the best I could.
The music video shooting came as unexpectedly as snow in July. Our manager brought this idea up just a few days ago with a full planned schedule of the release of our new single 'These are my Friends'. We were planning to release the song as soon as possible however we did not plan to release a music video to it (mostly because of the upcoming start of the shoot of The Legendary series and my lack of free time that came with it). We only wanted to edit our old videos we had of our early days to the song. As much as Lilybeth had loved that idea she suggested having it combined with shots of our present selves and at the end the whole concept was changed after a long discussion.
The concept we were doing now was of our present selves watching the videos from our early days as if we were on an exhibition in a museum. Everything was set up in a one room full of screens playing the clips we wanted to use in our original idea. We walked around the room watching the screens with glimpses of nostalgia flashing on our faces. The director gave us tips on how to make the perfect face and as much as it was helpful I felt my eyes getting more and more teary with every other video I watched. During the last shots at the end of the song we would leave this room stepping into the daylight which would represent leaving the past behind us and focusing on what we can create in the future. The scene we were shooting now, us playing our new song outside of that one room, would represent that this song was the first creation of The Popsicles that were embracing new possibilities. Last detail was the sunset behind us telling everyone it was the end of an era as we watched the sun get lost behind the horizon waiting for the new day and new opportunities. How we went from a simple edit of videos to this still remains a mystery to me although I played a major role in coming up with this idea.
"I cannot believe we are finally home!" Screamed Liv as soon as she got through the door and collapsed on the sofa. I could not help but to sit right beside her to rest my feet a little bit. "Don't get me wrong," she continued as the others joined us in the living room sitting down as well, "it was a brilliant idea. The fans are gonna love it, no doubt. But I just forgot how tiring it is to make a music video and this was only a one day shooting."
"Tell me about it. I basically have to do this tomorrow again but with a bigger production." I sighed thinking about my misfortune. Only the thought of having to do this again tomorrow made my stomach flip. It was my first time on a set like that and I felt like all the lines that I was learning for such a long time disappeared and were never coming back.
