When the councillor leaves, I look into Jayce's eyes, and he is worried.
"Why all the tension?" Sky questions, oblivious to the triangle of love and hate between Jayce, Mel and I.
"Don't worry about it." Jayce tells her, turning to the chalkboard. Sky looks back down at her work, but I can sense that the apprentice is concerned. We're her mentors, her tutors, her teachers - if there's an issue, especially between people involved with the development of HexTech, she's going to worry.
"It's a sensitive topic." I quietly inform her.

I take Jayce's hand when we leave, and when we're sure there is no one else around. My fingers lace with his. Though I'm not saying anything, I am giving Jayce hope. Reassuring him that I'm there, will help him through. I can guess that whatever Mel said had something to do with her figuring out Jayce has someone, and that Mel wasn't so pleased. But Mel will never ruin our relation.
We are science. What Jayce and I have, it's science. This is our scientific discovery, currently for our knowledge only. It's not a science project Mel has helped fund, like HexTech. Our relationship is purely Jayce and I, no one else involved, no one in the way, no one ruining it.
I squeeze Jayce's hand, and he squeezes mine back, then we walk into the fresh, open air. We're still holding hands, and it's dark outside anyway, so no one will see.
Not even thinking about it, we both walk to my place. As soon as we're inside, Jayce pulls me into a hug.
"I'm sick of her," Jayce cries softly into my shoulder, "Why has she got to be so intrusive? Just because she's a councillor, doesn't mean she can get her way with everything and everyone. I'm scared she's going to try hurt you, Viktor. I can't let her do that. I love you too much." I give him a small kiss on his cheek. Jayce comes up from my shoulder, tightens his hold on my waist, and stares down at me. He moves his face closer to mine and give me a long, passionate kiss on the lips. I give him one back. I wrap my arms around his neck.
"Mel is a person, and the actions of people can be stopped. She won't hurt us. We'll make sure of that." I say. He runs his fingers through my hair, then goes to lie across my sofa. I walk over to him, and he pulls me on top of him. He kisses my forehead, and traps me in his warm embrace.

We were late again, but only by 10 minutes this time. Luckily, there was no Heimerdinger to question us. I got to my desk-like area, to hang my coat on the back of my chair. I do hang my coat on my chair, but I also notice something in an envelope on the table. My name is written on it in all-too-familiar handwriting. In my head, I'm thinking 'shit, what does she know now?'. I open the letter, to find one A5 sheet of paper inside. There is no 'to whoever' or 'from whoever', but I know who it's from, and I know it's to me. In the centre of the sheet, in the familiar scribing, are 5 words - I have eyes, I see. I'm not sure what it means yet, but I put it back in the envelope, because I don't want to think of her. The letter goes in the pocket of my coat. I'll think about it later.
I look over to the ongoing lighting system experiment. It's still running. On the chalkboard, I put a 5 - the amount of days it's been going. Also, it still hasn't dimmed.
Viktor
"Sorry we're late again, it wasn't by too much. It was the cat. I thought something was wrong with her again, but she's fine." I say, apologising to Sky.
"It's fine. At least you weren't 3 hours late." she replies, bringing her head up from textbooks and notebooks, and many papers full of sketches.
"You've got some great ideas." I tell her, inspecting an improved version of the HexGates, a sketch, of course.
"Thank you."
I look over to Jayce, who's swinging round in his chair, holding a core between his fingers.
"There's one major issue with the HexCores," he announces, as I walk over, "They explode with impact. There's got to be a way to stabalise them. It might take a while, but I think it's possible."
"It can be our next task. We'll finish this lighting system, then work on the issue with the cores." I suggest. He nods and puts the core back in the case it came from.

We're packing up to leave. When Sky exits the building, she calls,
"Take care of your cat, and please don't be late tomorrow!"
I laugh a little at her comment on Viktor's cat. Viktor titters too.
I walk behind Viktor, and I grab him round the waist. Then I kiss him softly on his neck. Soon after, we leave the laboratory and go outside.
"Ah, shit. I left one of my books." I realise.
"We can go get it now. The building is right behind us." Viktor says, so we head back inside. I quickly grab my book, but leaving the building again is now not so quick. We are met in the corridor, by the one person both of us would rather not be seeing.
"Mel." I mutter, but loud enough for her to hear.
