Jayce

I go to find the nearest enforcer - they need to know the person behind this, no matter how high their power is. I find two enforcers walking down the corridor - one of them's Marcus, the sherrif, and the other is one I don't know the name of.

"Excuse me?" I say, grabbing their attention.

"Jayce Talis. We were just coming to speak to you and Viktor. Do you mind if we go to his hospital room to talk?" Marcus asks. I shake my head and lead us to Viktor.

"Viktor remembers who knocked him out." I tell Marcus and the other guy.

"Who?" Marcus questions Viktor.

"Councillor Medarda." he replies.

"Hmm... well. We ran tests over a couple objects that had been disturbed in you laboratory, and only 3 prints came up on all of them, none of which were Medarda's. Currently, that doesn't say much, as the security cameras had black out sections for a small while. We can run a search on the councillor's place, but I'd like you to know that you, Jayce, and the apprentice, Sky Young, are both suspects." the more superior officer explains.

"Ok. Thank you for telling us." I say, ending the conversation, which would have probably intensified if I hadn't gone and ended it, because me, a suspect? And Sky? We were in the test room, and I would never in a million years do anything to hurt Viktor.

Viktor

Marcus re-visited.

I was still in hospital, and Jayce had barely left my side. I'd actually slept properly that night, maybe because I felt all dosy from being hit in the head.

"A team and myself took a search of Councillor Medarda's home, and we were unable to find anything linking her to the attack. The investigation will still continue, due to the issue with security cameras. We can confirm that Medarda left her house just before the attack, when the lab cameras went dark, and returned home when the lab cameras re-activated, but since neither you, Jayce, or Sky were not on any nearby CCTV, neither can be written down as innocent."

"Sir, do take my word. I know Councillor Medarda when I see her - she doesn't look like anyone else. At least question her." I plead, my throat feeling dry. I reach for the glass of water, and take a drink.

"You have said what you saw Viktor, but until we have enough evidence to prove it was the councillor, she cannot be put in jail. I can say that they are planning for a trial in a week's time." With that Marcus leaves, not wanting to say any more. I've never liked that man, he's never been the best at his job, but at least he doesn't get the decision of who goes to jail, where the charge goes, etc.

When it all goes silent again, the speechlessness in the room doesn't last very long.

"When are you being discharged?" Jayce asks, standing from his seat, and walking closer.

"It was a head injury, so they've got to run assessments. They have run those assessments, and are just analysing them. I've probably got a concussion or something, and will... have to rest."

"Mhmmhmmm, but my boyfriend is restless, so won't want to rest, but I'll make him." Jayce responds.

"You've never used that word before." I say. Jayce turns his head in confusion.

"Boyfriend." I state. He doesn't say anything to it, just stays quiet like he's waiting for something else.

"And I don't have an issue with it," I continue, hoping it might be what he's not talking for, "I-" But he cuts me off and turns his head to the entrance.

Jayce

It is who I thought. I can sense the evil when it comes.

"You need to go." I demand, my words angry at the woman for her actions.

"Why? Tell me, Talis, why should I go? I'm only here to talk." she answers.

"You hurt him, Mel. I don't want Viktor to be close to you, or myself!"

"I had to get at you somehow," she puts her hand on my shoulder, which I quickly pull off, "It's not right, what you have. I need you to see that it won't work, you won't be accepted. You don't want to lose HexTech, do you?"

"It's not wrong, Medarda. What's wrong is you physically and mentally hurting people due to your corrupt opinions!" I shout at her, but not too loud to disturb the other people in the hospital.

"You're the one who's corrupt, Jayce."

"It's science, not a crime, and even if you view it your way, this discovery, like HexTech, will go from being hated to being celebrated." I reply.

"It's a mistake, that's what it is. Just end it, Talis. Le-"

"Get out." I instruct, sick of the sick woman and her sick views.

"-Let it go," she continues, "Don't do som-"

"GET OUT!" I yell, tears in my eyes. She won't get her way. Not ever. No one like her will. What she is, that's a crime. Not me, not Viktor.

The councillor finally goes. I take a seat back on the chair next to Viktor's bed.

"Come here." Viktor quietly says. I go sit on the edge of his bed, and lean back, and put my arm around him.

"I love you." I tell him.

"I know," he answers, "I do too." I kiss him on the side of his face, and relax - something that hasn't felt so possible since what Mel did.

I feel so bad writing what Mel says, and it's hard to do to, but it's story - I'm not a homophobic person like her character here.
