The Affair

Birthday.

"MOMMY MOMMY!! It's my birthday. Wake up! Wake up! MOMMY!!" Natalie says shaking Katherine.

"Ok. Okay. I'm awake. Happy Birthday."

"I'm 8 years old."

" I know. Let's go back to bed because it is 5 am. Why did you wake up so early?"

"I was excited. Can I sleep with you?"

"Of course. Come here."

"That'll be $229. 46." The cashier says. Katherine hands her two one hundred dollar bills and two twenties. She receives the change and heads to the car. She just bought Natalie an Ipad. She normally wouldn't get an 8-year-old an iPad but considering what Natalie has been through in the last two months, it's the least she can do. She gets to the house, and hurries and wraps Natalie's present. Brad and Natalie get back from getting lunch.

"Thanks for take my her to lunch."

"Mommy, we went to Newks."

"That's your favorite place to eat."

"I know."

"We brought you a sand which and fruit." Brad says.

"Mommy, can Daddy come back over for dinner?"

"Sure. Ask him." Katherine says, still forgetting about her date with Nick.

"Daddy, will you come over for dinner?"

"Sure. I'll see you later sweetheart, with your present."

"Ok, bye." Natalie says and Brad leaves to go to his apartment he is renting out.

Katherine is setting the table and her phone rings. She picks it up.

"Hey Kath." The person says and Katherine suddenly remembers about her date with Nick.

"Hey Nick."

"I just thought about this. What time should I be there?"

"Um, 8 pm. Do you mind if Natalie joins? It's her birthday and I totally forgot when I scheduled this dinner date."

"That's fine. Can you send me the address?"

"Yes, I will." Katherine says and hangs up. Now, what will she do about Brad? She has an idea. Katherine calls Brad.

"Brad, Natalie isn't feeling well. Maybe we should reschedule her birthday dinner."

"Okay. Tell her that I hope she feels better."

It's 8:06 pm and Nick isn't here. Katherine knows that she shouldn't have expected him right at 8 but she wonders where he is. Soon, a knock on the door happens. She opens it and sees Brad, not Nick.
