"Are you alright..?" Mirabel said from my door, looking very concerned for me.

I was still shaking, but I let go of Camilo completely. "I'm sorry." I looked at my feet, feeling terrible for running away from breakfast and causing all this commotion.

"This must be hard on you, but we can help you get through it." Julieta smiled at me as she walked over and handed me a warm arepa, my favorite from her. I started blushing a bit, reality now sinking in and I felt embarrassed.

"Gracias, I appreciate it..."

Some time went on, and I just rested in bed because of what happened in the morning.

Suddenly, I heard a knock at my door. "Hey, Rosa? Mind if I come in?" The voice of Dolores called from the other side.

She opened the door a bit for my response as I sat up, patting my bed for her to sit down.

"What's up?.." I questioned, not thinking about what Dolores would usually doing at this time of day.

"I lied a bit at breakfast, I heard a bit more..." I looked at her, intrigued, but also sad. I sighed, but she continued. "Should I... tell you the rest?"

I nodded before she started.

"What do you mean by 'him'? Is something going on with my sweet daughter and a dumb boy?"

"Like you'd care.."

"What did you say?"

"You and Mama were never there for Rosa, even I wasn't. You know Tía was the only one who was good to her, she didn't even have friends. Then when Tía fell sick... she had no one."

...

"You know your mother and I were just providing for the family! It's hard to make a living in our village."

"Even so, we should've loved and cared for her regardless. I only started being better to her a few months ago..." "You didn't even keep your promise with her, Mama is still working and only takes care of Maria when she gets home."

"Well it doesn't matter now, there's nothing we can do, now tell me about that boy."

"About that time I stopped being able to hear them, I presume they made it out of range of my gift..." Dolores made a face of pity towards me, a tear starting to fall from my left eye.

"Knowing my family, they would've just started arguing with each other. It's better that your ears didn't have to experience it." I tried dragging away from what she said, but couldn't help it. "My Tía is going to die, though."

"D-don't say that!" Dolores widened her eyes, shaking me a bit from the shoulders. "You never know, it could just be because she's starting to get better!"

"I've been taking care of her for almost three years now, she's only gotten worse..." Suddenly, my vision was getting blurred due to more tears.

Dolores pulled me in for a hug, she's like a younger version of Tía, she's so nice... "You never know, but you should keep your hopes up!" She slowly broke the hug and smiled gently at me.

"You're like an older sister to me, muchas gracias..."

"It helps that I am an older sister..." She chuckles, trying to lighten the mood, but Camilo does a much better job. "Do you want Camilo and Mirabel to come and hang out? we can eat some snacks and talk..."
