Marshall's words echoed through the area and to Everest's ears, it made sense to speak to the pups now, so Marshall and Everest began walking back, their paws leaving prints in the dirt of the ground.
Meanwhile, Chase's drone had returned to his vehicle. He had been using it to watch Marshall and Everest so the rest of the team could help them primarily, but he was forced to bring the drone back before the battery ran out, which meant he didn't hear everything Marshall said or anything Everest may have said to Marshall.
Katie was extremely concerned about the two pups as well, but especially Marshall. He still had to recover from being stuck on Jake's mountain during a blizzard for multiple hours, but luckily for her, Marshall and Everest came back to the clinic.
Ryder, Chase, Rocky, Skye, Zuma, Rubble and Katie looked at their friends in concern, but Everest and Marshall had a look of confusion on their face as Everest began to speak "I don't want to be blunt here, but why was Chase's drone listening to us? We saw it as we were speaking"
Everest's question was something Chase honestly expected, he shouldn't have sent out the drone to listen to them. He should've taken his own advice and allowed them to take things slow in telling him and the others, but he didn't, but then again, he did it to make sure they'd be okay so they could help, not to spy on them, but did they really need some equipment from one of their teammates to stealthily follow them to do that? Marshall and Everest, just like any other member of the Paw Patrol have proven they can keep themselves safe by themselves if needed, but being with Ryder definitely helps with things in their day to day lives, like how he helps them through what's going on and by playing with them.
"Everest" Chase began, trying to reply to answer and provide his reasoning. "If you're going to be mad at someone for that, be mad at me. Nobody told me to listen to your conversation with my drone, we wanted to make sure you and Marshall would be safe. Maybe it wasn't the best idea on my part to use my drone, but it's what we did, and for that I'm sorry" Chase apologized as he looked to Marshall and Everest, they looked upset to the other pups, Ryder and Katie, but it wasn't out of malice or anything by the looks of it.
But both Everest and Marshall were definitely at least somewhat upset. Which was proven as Marshall spoke up, "I appreciate the concern Chase, but I wanted to ask something" the Dalmatian looked to Chase with calm eyes, trying to find the words to say what he wanted to.
"Why do you think I went to Everest and Jake to speak to them? Well at least before the blizzard hit"
No one had actually thought about this after Marshall and Everest went to speak to each other, and they haven't had a time to discuss it, because the reason they're at Katie's is because Marshall went to the mountain, unknowingly right before a blizzard and was stuck up there until the team could rescue him. But now that question was at the front of everyone's mind, except Everest's.
"Why did Marshall go up the mountain to speak to Everest and Jake?" Everyone thought about this to themselves, trying to figure it out as a group but everyone was stumped, why did he? There must've been a reason, but what was it?
Marshall sighed, he didn't expect them to know, how could they? Only he and Everest know, well Everest has to assume initially about what was troubling Marshall, but filling in the blanks of when Jake told her Marshall was on his way, even back to her nightmare that woke her up that day about her past with Ruben and Butch, and what day of the month it is, it made sense.
"April 19th" Everest muttered, that day was a grim anniversary for both her and Marshall. They had escaped from Ruben and Butch on April 19th which was great, but it always made memories of the torture they endured flood back, and for Everest specifically, the memory of Marshall jumping into the creek in an attempt to end his life. This year was no exception to the memories that came flooding back, but this confused Ryder, Katie and the pups. Why was Everest mentioning today's date?
But then Chase thought about something, alongside Ryder, they both found Marshall on Adventure Bay's beach on April 20th, he remembered wondering what happened to Marshall to cause all of his wounds and how dirty his fur was, maybe something happened to Marshall and Everest on April 19th?
But everyone knew they were getting off track, Marshall and Everest came back to ask Chase why his drone was following them. It was a valid question, but it was also so the team could confirm their safety, Chase hadn't heard anything of what they said through the drone.
"Marshall, Everest, we were wrong to use Chase's drone to make sure you'd be safe. You were only talking and you were fairly close by, we're sorry" Ryder ran his hand through his hair as he apologized for the group, with it being his idea.
The pups and Ryder expected Marshall and Everest to be upset like they were earlier, but to their relief, they were looking forward calmly.
"Ryder... I... it's okay, you wanted to make sure we'd stay safe with all of us pups being your responsibility. We can't fault you for that" Everest said as Marshall nuzzled into her fur, visibly allowing her to calm down.
"Yeah, Ryder, Chase, everyone. It's truly okay, you were only concerned about us" Marshall replied as the group calmed down.
But as the group was calming down, Katie remembered something, Marshall still had to recover from being stuck on the mountain, so she found it right to bring it up.
"Pups, Ryder. I'm sorry to interrupt but Marshall still needs to recover from being on the mountain, I know there are some things that need to be cleared up but right now, this has to take priority"
Marshall sighed, Katie was right. He was still freezing and had to rest, so reluctantly, he left the conversation and followed Katie into the clinic.
