A worthy successor

Cradled on the rough steppe

Land was the ultimate prize

Anonymous until proven otherwise

No quarter or mercy given

Prisoners were little more than trophies

Equal to the honor of kings

Rowdy warbands cascaded

Sampling the fruit of the Near East

Idolizing the great khans

Agony for the defiant

Conquest still made a name

A last hurrah for the nomads

Undying thirst for validation

Coaxed by destiny

Ascending viziers became caged pets

Strategy was the key

Ink and blood run in rivers

Admirer of art and construction

Descendants would claim his role

Elation at his vast holding

Long lived the last khan

Heinous and methodical in tactics

Indifferent to his subjects

A great capital created

No man or force withstood Tamerlane

Awaiting the final surrender

Towers of bone adorned his empire

Over looming threat

Laying waste like the old days

Idealists evacuated to the interior

Adept in taking what was due

Content to spread further

Hindered only by mortality

Indecently stashed in secret

Never bested on the field

An enigma of power
