Music class was torture. Several dragons had tried to make him feel better, but they had all failed. He reached for a scroll from the scroll rack. Reading would be better than thinking about this over and over again.

He began to unroll the scroll. Something fell out of it.

A note, Qibli thought.

Meet me in the library after the next class.

Moon

Qibli's heart leapt against his will. Maybe she DOES like me, maybe she cares about me, led straight into Maybe she wants to formally tell me she doesn't like me.

He busied himself by reading. The scroll was a story called "The Legend of Jade Mountain."

Many years ago there lived a snake. No ordinary snake. It was as tall as a mountain and could shoot its acidic venom for miles. Every dragon lived in fear of this terrible foe, for it's venom could kill a dragon the moment even just a drop hit their scales and it would eat dragons. Dragons all over called it the Jade Snake because its scales were the color of jade. One day, a young dragon named Stormslayer heard that the Jade Snake was nearing her village. She decided that she would have to slay it to protect all of dragonkind. She set forth to the Jade Snake's lair with a shield and spear. It arose to battle her. The Jade Snake shot its venom at her, but she blocked it with her shield. The venom splashed back at the snake, killing it. Stormslayer returned triumphantly to her village. Meanwhile, the Jade Snake's body turned to stone, becoming Jade Mountain.

Qibli put down the scroll. That was more interesting than I thought it would be, he thought.

He spotted the note.

Why shouldn't I go, it's not like my heartache can get worse.
