"Really?" Shard said, "That's who you choose?"
"I'm sorry," Moon told him, "and I know you feel crushed, but I'm not sure you are right for me."
"I wasn't ever aware there was a choice," Shard replied.
"What do you mean?" Moon asked.
"You see, I do like you, but as a friend, and I thought that you were so cool and you'd never want to be friends with an ordinary IceWing like me. I didn't know you thought that I liked you in a...different way," Shard explained.
Moon couldn't believe how much she'd misjudged things. She'd thought his thoughts were so clear, but they had meant something totally different then she'd expected.
"That's a relief," Moon said. "I don't want to hurt you. So...friends, then?"
"Yes," Shard said, "Friends forever. Now go out there and tell him how you feel." Moon walked back into the library.
"Moon," Qibli said as she neared him, "I know what you're about to say, and I don't want you to say it. I don't need the heartbreak. I know you chose Shard, but if I hear you say it out loud, I will feel even worse."
"You've got it all wrong," Moon said. "He's a great friend and I want to spend a lot of time with him, but I love him as a friend, not as a crush."
"Then who do you love? Is it Mightyclaws? Mightyclaws is awesome. If you love him, I totally support your decision."
"No."
"Then WHO?" It was time. She was finally going to tell him. She was going to share her inner feelings.
"I love YOU, Qibli," Moon declared.
"What? You?" Qibli sputtered.
"Yes, I love you," Moon repeated, "and I know-."
"I love you Moon, and now I'm so glad I decided to come back to Jade Mountain Academy," Qibli interrupted.
"Let's go flying," Moon said. She knew he'd say yes. They went outside to the mountain.
After an hour of flying, Qibli and Moon landed on Jade Mountain.
"Should we go in?" Moon asked.
"No," decided Qibli, "there's one more thing I want to do." And he wrapped his wings around her. And she did the same to him. And they stayed like that for several peaceful moments. Tails twined together, wings wrapped around each other.
Then they flew back to school. And Moon didn't have to read his mind to know what he was thinking. She knew he was thinking Moon and I, together forever.
In fact, she was thinking something almost identical to that. She was thinking Qibli and I, together forever.
The two dragons flew back to the school, both feeling joyful that they had confessed their love, and they had been accepted.
