"What kind of things do you guys like to do for fun?"
The week had been a stressful one to say the least. Most kids worry about homework, chores, and what boys they like. I have to worry about saving the world. I mean, it helps that I have friends to support me, but sometimes I just wish that they would never have to put themselves in danger. Sometimes I think that they would be better off if they had never met me. I haven't been sleeping in weeks. With Silveny gone who knows where, I'm pretty much on my own. The nightmares have been endless, and even sleeping under Calla's tree doesn't help as much as it used to. Which is why I figured we could all use a break.
"Do y'all have any, like, amusement parks or something? Maybe crystal water slides? Swimming pools?" I asked.
"Okay, first of all. What. Is. An. AMUSEMENT PARK? I mean, that sounds AWESOME! Is it a human thing? Is it like, a bunch of funny guys dressed up being amusing? I bet they aren't as funny as me. Definitely not as dashingly handsome."
I rolled my eyes as Keefe flexed his arms, but I couldn't help the small smile that lit up my face. Keefe must have noticed, cause he flashed me one of his signature smirks.
"An amusement park is a human thing," I answered. "I can't believe you guys have never heard of them before. They have really fun rides, characters you can meet, LOTS of good food, and gift shops. My human family used to take me to this one called Disneyland, and it used to be my favorite place in the whole world."
"Dizznee land?!?!" Keefe exclaimed. "Dex, you are famous. Why didn't you ever tell me you were king of your very own country? One with food at that! I feel betrayed. Right here." Keefe pointed dramatically to his heart.
"It's not..." I started to say, but Dex interrupted me with a groan.
"Noooooo, its not that creepy place with the giant mouse man from your scrapbook is it?'
"GIANT MOUSE MAN???!!! Foster, we are going there. Right. now. "
"His name is Mickey Mouse," I explained, "And he's from these cartoons.." (they were all giving me blank stares) "right, you don't know what that is. ANYway, he's someone that a lot of human kids look up to, and they go to Disneyland to see him, and ride on all the rides."
"I don't care if he's nice, the dude is a freakin giant mouse. There is NO WAY that I am going to say hi to him."
"Oh, is Dexter afraid of a wittle mouse?" Keefe teased.
"To be frank, I don't really see what the big deal is," Fitz said. "Humans are so weird. I've seen an amusement park before..."
"Yes, we all know Fitz has seen big IMPORTANT things on his secret IMPORTANT missions," Biana cut in, "but I think it sounds awesome!"
"They also have princesses there," I offered. "And castles."
"WHATNOWAYINEEDTOGORIGHTNOW!!!!!"
"Biana, it's dangerous. These are humans we are talking about. They practically get killed every other day from giant machines like roller coasters and stuff," Fitz interrupted.
"Back the T-Rex up," Keefe shouted. "What is a roller coaster?"
"Giant screaming machines of Death. And Destruction. And Death."
"Really Bangs Boy? We've already got Fitz here killing all the excitement."
Linh piped up, "He has literally been looking for an excuse to say that during this whole conversation. He does this every time." Linh gave her brother a smirk as he shot her a glare.
"A roller coaster is this really fun ride, that goes super fast, and then you go plop, and it's like whoosh..." They were giving me blank stares again. "Anyway, it's fun and I think you guys would like it," I finished lamely.
I was actually really hoping they would want to go. Thinking about Disneyland makes me remember my human family, and all the fun times we used to have there. I remember riding on Splash Mountain, my favorite ride, and having to hold tight to Amy who was scared to death. She never went on any of the cool rides after that. I wonder if she is still scared of them? I would think probably not, since she rode on Silveny without so much as a gasp.
Keefe probably sensed my sudden change in mood. He came over and draped his arm around me and said, "Foster, I think this settles it. We NEED to be introduced to the wonders that are roller coasters in Dizznee's magic kingdom of food and giant mice."
My heart fluttered a little (what was that about?), and I shrugged off his arm and teased, "I don't know Keefe, I don't think you could handle it. I mean, there's this terrible cave of horrors that you go into on one of the rides, and monsters sing creepy songs.." (Small World, obviously). And on this other ride, they launch you off a cliff after showing you the murder of an innocent rabbitt" (Splash Mountain, what can I say?).
Keefe gave an offended gasp: "How could you say that Sophie? You know I can handle anything!" But then he leaned in a little closer and whispered, "As long as you are there, I know I'll be alright."
I blushed bright red, and he smirked at me. I know he's only teasing me when he says stuff like that, but sometimes I wonder...
"Okay, if you think you can handle it, meet at the cliffs of Havenfield tomorrow after breakfast, and I will teleport us there."
"Awesome Lady Foss-Boss. And we can have good old Sandor dress up as an old lady again. Two words: Price less."
