A wellness check, if you will. Mia and Fleamont allowed them privacy in the sitting room after sending James in with a tray of tea.
Romina smiled at James as he scurried out of the room. Although she wouldn't consider them friends, not yet, they were on their way to being so. James talked with her every night before bed. She could see that he was trying, and it was quite endearing.
"Miss Lestrange." Professor McGonagall spoke up first, her gaze moving from Dumbledore who dove right into making himself a cup of tea, and who was already nibbling on a biscuit, to Romina who sat there fidgeting on the armchair.
"Yes, Professor?"
"How are you acclimating to your new environment? I dare say I never thought I would see a girl, especially one such as yourself, living with James Potter and Sirius Black." McGonagall smiled a bit, knowing that Romina would be able to hear the humor in her statement.
"It's certainly an adjustment." Romina admitted tentatively, knowing full well that both boys were leaning on either side of the doorway listening in on the conversation. "But the Potters are absolutely brilliant... James included, I suppose. But they have welcomed me with open arms and for the first time in a long time," she paused and took a sip of her tea, "I feel safe. It's a nice feeling."
McGonagall smiled and that was her only response on the matter.
"I want to assure you, Miss Lestrange, that we will do everything in our power to keep you protected from those who wish you harm." Dumbledore rubbed his fingers together, dusting off the crumbs from the biscuit he had just finished eating.
Romina watched him curiously. He always seemed so nonchalant about things, and while she was grateful that he intercepted her letter and ultimately was the reason Sirius was able to save her, there was something about the man that made her feel uncomfortable.
"Thank you, Headmaster." She began, a soft sigh escaped her lips as she looked down at her lap. Marlene and Lily had held up their promises to give some clothes to Romina, and she was grateful. She would never admit it, but she enjoyed wearing the shirt Sirius had given her that very first day here. Currently, she was wearing that very same shirt again, though in addition to it she also wore her own pair of shorts now. The feeling of the worn shirt beneath her fingertips calmed her, oddly enough, and the worry she was feeling slowly started to fade away.
