A week passed from that night Bucky returned and you both had a schedule. If you didn't follow your schedule, he knew something was the matter."Why are you home? You're supposed to be at the lab with Shuri." Bucky stated plainly when he stepped into your shared tiny home for an afternoon snack.
"I don't know, just didn't feel like it." You replied, drool pooling out of your mouth as you laid side ways on the two seater. You stared at the tiny tv that you or him had barely touched since buying it together.
"Its Christmas Eve, don't get all depressed on me now." He joked awkwardly expecting you to laugh. He loved your laugh, it made him feel..fuzzy.
"Merry X-mas," you replied with less energy than before.
"What's the matter?" He walked over to the living area and placed a hand on your forehead. It was burning hot, searing his pasty hand slightly.
"Ow!" He retracted his hand and shook it like a madman.
"I'm sorry," you said absently. Bucky didn't know how he could help but he felt a strong urge too. To him, it didn't seem like you knew what was wrong so the next thing was a person who lived with you for years.
He pulled his phone out and dialed a number that T'Challa had advised against. Right now that did not matter to him, you mattered.
"Buck?" Steve spoke through the phone.
"Hey I have an important question." Bucky got straight to the point. Bucky loved Steve but this seemed more important.
"What's the matter? Did you break Y/n? Did she break you?!" He overwhelmed Bucky with so many questions.
"Uh yea I think," Bucky stuttered.
"She broke you? How?" Steve asked sternly.
"No I mean I think she is broken." Bucky corrected his best friend.
"Whats going on?" Steve asked, less frantic but still caring towards you.
"She's acting weird, no energy and she burned my hand when I checked her forehead." Bucky explained your symptoms.
"Oh, she's got Witch Fever." Steve realized.
"Witch Fever?" Bucky was seemingly more confused.
"Yes, Thor taught us about it when she was living with us. Once a year she gets Witch Fever. Talk to Shuri, she'll help you with the remedy." Steve responded and ended the call.
"Y/n, doll," Bucky whispered which earned a lazy grunt from you, "I'm going to go to Shuri's lab to get your medicine." He told you. You just nodded your head weakly in response. He smiled at your vulnerability before bringing you a blanket which you cuddled aggressively.
"I'll be back." He reminded you. Your eyes were closed but you still knew what was going on. He hesitated a bit. And then, he planted a small kiss on the top of your head; careful not the burn himself.
Bucky charged out of the hut and beelined to the lab making long and fast strides. People called to him but he was to focus to even hear the world around him.
"Shuri! I need you!" Bucky yelled as he ran down the corridor into Shuri's lab.
"So you're late and now your harassing me for something," Shuri yelled back and powered down a machine she was working on.
"It's Y/n, she has Witch Fever." Bucky explained.
"And why are you here and not home taking care of her?!" Shuri changed her mind fairly quick.
"Well Steve said you had the remedy," Bucky explained.
"Yes, yes, take this and put in green tea. It has to be specifically green tea." Shuri emphasized and shooed Bucky away after placing lilac and purple flowers in Bucky's palm. They were flower hybrids that had been grown with the heart-shaped herb. The purple petals were heart shaped and Bucky guided them with his life.
When he returned to the cottage you were laying on the floor, blanket barely covering you.
"Are you dead?" Bucky peered over the couch looking down on you.
"Yep," you mumbled. He chuckled and headed to the kitchen.
"I'm making tea," he informed you and filled the kettle with water then placed it on the stove. You grunted a bit and rolled over. He placed the flowers on the counter and admired the fact that he hadn't damaged them.
"How did you manage to fall onto the floor?" Bucky asked and began trying to pull you up onto the couch.
"I rolled over the wrong way." You replied.
"C'mon, I'll read to you if you help me out." Bucky grunted as you behaved like dead weight. You sighed and helped him lift you to the couch.
"What are you going to read to me?" You asked deliriously.
"My favorite," he replied and plucked his copy of "The Hobbit" from the coffee table. He began to read as promised. He did not stutter once, his voice was quite soothing. You imagined listening to him speak. He would discuss his favorite book and all the online theories he had found in full detail. You didn't know why and maybe it was the illness talking but you quite liked imagining this. You had decided to do it more often.
The tea kettle began to whistle after a few pages of reading. Bucky didn't want to get up with your head resting on his chest.
You didn't want him to get up with your head resting on his chest.
"I'll be back and you'll be feeling better in no time," Bucky reluctantly pulled himself away from you to finish the tea, leaving you with your thoughts on the sofa.
You were thinking about how little things you enjoyed and liked. There were plants, Mr. Lextus and Kate, sleep and tea and then there was Bucky. Bucky was new yet you liked him equally to the other things on your list. He cared for you and that brought a smile to your face and heat to your cheeks.
"Here you go, doll." Bucky handed you a small white tea cup with green tea and purple heart shaped petals sprinkled on top, a familiar drink but on you weren't opposed to. You took a sip and then another until your cup was empty.
"Thank you," you told him and rested your head on his chest again. He didn't reply and he just played with your hair and you both sat there deep in thought on Christmas Eve.
