It had been three weeks since the war. You had moved back into the Avengers Compound. There had been no missions, no movement, no noise. Just a silent shared mourning. On this particular night, you were in the kitchen with Pepper. She was preparing tea for the two of you and baking chocolate chip cookies. The two of you bonded over the loss of your signifigant other. The house began to rumble and gripped your empty mug tight.
You saw Steve run out of the bathroom so you ran quickly behind him, out to the yard of the huge property. You noticed under the moonlight that his face was shaved. Slowly a beat up ship came into view, a person glowing gold was carrying it down. The rest of the remaining Avengers followed behind you and Steve as the vessel landed. Pepper had joined, looking hopefully at the sky.
Down the ramp of the ship, you saw a blue robot help Tony hobble out. He looked awful. He was gaunt and tired. His bones were showing and his eye bags darkened his entire face. He was panting and Steve ran over to assist him. Pepper ran to the two of them with tears in her eyes. She hugged him as tight as she could. A sense of relief washing over her.
You stood and watched. You wondered why that couldn't be you. You resented the Titan who stole your love as soon as you found it. But jealousy wasn't a good look so you painted a fake happiness onto your face and celebrated the return of Tony Stark.

"What did you do?!" Rocket cried out. You stared down at Thanos's head, no body attached. The body that was meant to support that head had an axe through the chest while your magic signature swirled out of the neck. You killed Thanos.
You were so desperate to avenge your beloved. But it didn't matter, he didn't know you loved him, so why did you care so much?
The Avengers gathered around the corpse at your feet and a single tear rolled down Nebula's cheek.
"I'm sorry," you whispered. The team exchanged looks and escorted you to the ship. They felt your pain, they shared it and for once they emphasized with you.

Five Years LaterFive years had passed. Five years without Bucky. Five years without your goats. Five years without happiness. In that year, you kept quiet and avoid the Avengers. Now, you weren't being held a prisinor. You had all the freedoms younger you dreampt of but you didn't want them. You wanted your love back.
Day 1,825 without you. I'm sorry I couldn't save you. Please come back, Bucky. We need you, I need you. Steve won't say it but he loves you. I love you.
You sent the message and from your closet, you heard a ding. A tear rolled down your cheek and you wiped it away. The compound was much emptier now that there were only two of you.
Sometimes when it was really late at night, you could hear Natasha's sobs. She didn't want you to hear her pain, so you didn't mention it but Steve did. Every time he visited he would lecture the two of you for not having a life but neither did he.

You cut a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich diagonally, ready for a meeting with some remaining Avengers.
"Yeah, we boarded that highly-suspect warship Danvers pinged."Hologram Rocket informed the group call.
"It was infectious garbage scow." Nebula growled.
"So thanks for the hot tip," Rocket turned to Carol and her new haircut.
"You were closer." She replied.
"Yeah and now we smell like garbage." Rocket complained.
"Did you get a reading on those tremors?" You asked Okoye.
"Minor subduction in an African plate." Okoye explained.
"Do we have a visual? How are we handling it?" You followed up your question frantically.
"Y/n, its a mild earthquake. In the ocean. We handle it, by not handling it." Okoye was stern but she knew you were panicked and scared of losing another. They all understood or frustration and thats the only reason they came to these meetings. Saving the universe could go just as swiftly without them but they knew you wanted updates and comfort.
The rest of meeting went on and once it ended tears streamed down your face. You breathed in a steady and deep way with your face in your palms. You couldn't have Natasha hearing you.
You didn't hear it but Steve happened to sneak up on you.
"I'd offer to cook you dinner but you already seem sad enough," he spoke. You look up with puffy eyes at the muscular man leaning on the doorway.
"Come by to do your laundry?" You asked.
"And to see a friend," he replied.
"Your friend is fine." You chuckled. He gave you a disappointed look at your lie.
"Did she leave the house today?" He asked skeptically.
"Theres nothing out there that I particularly want to see." You shrugged.
"I spotted a pod of whales coming in over the bridge," he told you.
"In the Hudson?" You were in disbelief.
"Fewer ships, cleaner water. There is still a world out there." He reminded you.
"If you're going to tell me to look on the bright side, I will hit you in the face with my sandwich." You warned him. His face falls and formed a brand new comforting look.
"Sorry, force of habit." He said.
"If I move on, then who does this?" You asked him. He thought for a minute and gave you a look.
"I had nothing before him, before you. Before Nat even, but now I have a family to fight for." You explained. He nodded. He waited a a little bit for the emotional tension to clear.
"I think we both need to get a life." He laughed.
"You first," you scoffed.
