The Change

Chapter 16

As I wake up to the sound of thunder and bright flash I lay in Dalton's hospital bed next him, I listen to the rain and Dalton breathing heavy, I don't move or look around I just stare at the door knob on the bath room door thinking of everything life and how different my life would be right now if I didn't cut my hair and pissed off my mom, the reason I am here, the things that have happened, and loads of other stuff I've been staying in this hospital for 8 days straight and I've only gone home a few times to shower and feed Charlie I haven't talked to any of our friends in a while and turns out Dalton also broke his wrist and cracked a broke in both of his ankles "Why are you awake?"Dalton asks but I didn't notice he woke up "I don't know"I say and I keep my eyes on the door knob "What are you thinking about?"he asked "Stuff"I say "What kind of stuff?"he asks "Nothing important"I say "Alright"he says "I want to go home"I say "We are going home tomorrow"he says "I know"I say "What time is it?"he asks and I look at my phone "7:45"I say "So the alarm should be going off any second now"he says, moments later the alarm rang and I quickly turned it off, I get off the bed and I walk over to my bag that I brought from home and I changed into skinny jeans and a giant sweater then I pulled my hair up into a pony tail and I tied the bandanna on the way I usually do and I put my vans back on and I fixed up my make-up "Someone is here to see you" I heard the nurse say as I walked out of the bathroom "Send them up"he says and nurse walked out.

Soon the door opens and Dalton's mom walked in then his little sister then his step-dad "What are you guys doing here?"Dalton asked "We heard you were in the hospital so we wanted to come see how you were feeling"his mom said "I'm fine now you can leave"he says "Don't talk to your mother like that"his step-dad scolds him "Not like your any better"he says "You better watch your mouth"his step-dad says "Like you care you only want to get me arrested"Dalton says "Yea I do, you kidnapped someone"he says "No I didn't"Dalton says "Yes you did"his step-dad says "No I didn't we ran away"Dalton says "Sure"his step-dad says "He didn't kidnap me and if anything I technically kidnapped him"I say "No you didn't"his step-dad says back to me "Yes I did we were in my car cause I wanted to run away"I say "Cellen just drop it he's gonna keep saying that I did it"Dalton says "Well you didn't and all of this is my fault cause I did something my mom didn't like and it led to me running away and all you did was join me"I say "Where is your mom anyways?"Dalton's mom asked "She's staying somewhere"I say "Well your dad has turned into a drunk and when he's mad he throws furniture out the window"she says "See he gets mad at everything and that's one of the reasons I left, he beat me"I tell her "Sorry hear her that"she says "So Dalton I'm guessing you are going to come home with us once you get out"his step-dad says "No I'm going back home"Dalton says "That's what I just said"he says "No my house the one I bought with Cellen"Dalton says "When did this happen?"his mom asked "We've had it for almost a month"I say "And you didn't tell us. You have to invite us over sometime so we catch up"his mom says "No just stay away from us"Dalton says and his little sister looks at me "Can I take Jessica to the play room down the hall?"I ask Dalton's parents "No you might take her too"his step-dad says then his mom hit his step-dad is the side "Sure you can"his mom said "Thank you", "Do you want to come play with me?"I ask Jessica and she nods her head, I walk out of the room holding Jessica's hand as we walked down the hallway.

When we got in the room there was little kids in there, ones in wheel chairs, ones with cancer, and others that could only sit in a chair and watch other kids play, I feel terrible for all these little kids, Jessica and I walk to the table full of toys on the side of the room and we start to make a puzzle, I am now crammed in tiny chair and kids are starring at me and Jessica keeps giving me weird looks "Jessica why don't you like me?"I ask "Cause you took me brother away from us"she says "No your brother just ran away with me, it was his choice he didn't have to come with me"I tell her "That's not what my daddy told me"she says "Who do you believe someone who was actually there or someone that just hears the rumors?"I ask her "I don't know depends on what its about like my dad says that it I don't eat my veggetables then they will eat me in my sleep, but I know they won't but I guess if dad doesn't know everything and someone had to tell him about it then I guess I believe you, I've never thought about that"she says "How old are you?"I ask "7"she says, shes very smart to be 7 "Did you miss Dalton?"I ask "Yea"she says as she tries to put the puzzle together, I put the last few pieces of the puzzel on and it makes a big blue butterfly "Ready to take it apart?"I ask and she nods her head and take apart the puzzle and we put it in the box "I want to go back and see Dalton"she says "Ok"I say and she grabs my hand and we walk back to Dalton's room.
