The Surface was something new to Sans. He wished he could stand there for hours, admiring the view. Instead he was riding in a strange structure he'd never seen before. It was red with no roof to speak of and went very fast. Papyrus seemed to be enjoying himself. I didn't ask what this was. There was so much. I felt so overwhelmed. I was supposed to murder all these people? That seemed impossible, how had he expected me too? With all this... I shut down. "SANS?"
"yes papyrus." I drilled, blanker than usual (if that was even possible). Papyrus noticed. "ARE YOU OK SANS?"
"i function well." Papyrus blinked. "ARE YOU... OVERWHELMED..?"
"i am ready to serve." He replied. Papyrus sighed, speed dialing Alphys. "ALPHYS, DO YOU THINK WE COULD SET UP SOME APPOINTMENTS TODAY? HE'S... BACK TO BEING SCARILY MONOTONE."🤍🤍🤍
They stopped at the Therapy building and Papyrus led Sans inside. "SANS IS HERE FOR A SESSION WITH DR. RAMIREZ." He was then lead to a room with a male human... and left alone with him. "So I've heard of your... upbringing... it must have been hard on you."
"..." He didn't understand. Was this a test? Was he supposed to kill him? Leave him? "Um... right. Well, I'm Dr. David Ramirez. I'm supposed to help you with your problems. I'm not going to force you to talk if you don't want to, but just know I'm here to help you, not harm you." The poor man would also be the one conditioning Sans, and seeing the way the skeleton was, it would take quite a bit of time.🤍🤍🤍
Sans ended up not killing that man. It seemed to be the right choice as Papyrus was happy. Sans hadn't done much talking either though. Actually, he hadn't talked at all. "SANS, PLEASE, IF THERE IS ANYONE YOU CAN TALK TO WITHOUT YOUR PAST BEING LEAKED, IT'S DR. RAMIREZ. PLEASE, TALK TO HIM. THIS IS NOT AN ORDER, BUT A REQUEST." Sans didn't respond. A request? He wasn't entirely sure what that even was. He looked out to the surrounding buildings. He'd never been around so many people, human or monster it made him tense. He thought one human was bad, now to be thrown in a city of them.. Papyrus stopped at his studio apartment. Since it was just him, he figured the open space would be better than separate different rooms. It also meant no hiding places for Sans though. He wasn't sure how the skeleton would take it. Sans trailed after Papyrus as they walked into the building then the elevator. Pressing the button to his designated floor, the waited. "SANS... HAVE YOU KILLED BEFORE..?" Sans replied after a moment of hesitation. "no." Papyrus visibly relaxed. "IS THAT WHY YOU WERE HESITANT ON KILLING FRISK?" More silence before he answered. "yes." Papyrus nodded. He noted how Sans willingly answered the questions without him ordering Sans to do so. It was progress.
🤍🤍🤍
Sans stared at the open floor of the studio. Being used to confined spaces, he suddenly felt exposed. He didn't like it. "HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?" Papyrus asked as if reading his thoughts. "..." He wandered to the couch and sat down stiffly. "TOO OPEN FOR YOUR LIKING?" Papyrus knew the answer to that. "I'M SORRY SANS, I HONESTLY HAD NO CLUE YOU WERE COMING. I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN-"
"it's fine." Sans didn't even know why the skeleton was apologizing to him. "E-EXCUSE ME..?"
"the house. it'll be fine." Sans would adapt as he has done previously. He would be fine. Papyrus smiled widely. Whether Sans had reassured him on purpose or not, it was still a kind gesture that he appreciated. And maybe he really was, slowly, getting better. Papyrus hoped that the Therapy and conditioning would really, truly help though. "I WILL HAVE TO GET YOU A BED IN HERE AS WELL, I HOPE THE COUCH WILL DO FOR NOW..."
"yes." Sans sunk into the fabric, trying to relax, if only a little bit. He tried letting his mind wander for a change, instead of locking onto what he should be thinking about, what he should be planning. It helped. He thought about the kindness of Papyrus, how all he's been trying to do was help. Sans found that he liked Papyrus.
