Five very long, very excruciating months had passed for Sans. Therapy and conditioning had been rough on him. It was yet another session, and yet another long period of silence on his part. "Sans... you can't continue to bottle your feelings. "You need to talk to someone. There are people here, trying to help you. Good people." Dr. Ramirez explained seriously. He was scared for the skeleton, he wanted to understand why Sans was the way he was. The skeleton simply continued to stare, ever blank. "What happened to you to make you think you're a weapon, Sans?" Sans looked away, back out the window. Dr. Ramirez thought he'd failed to get him to speak, but... "it started after 2-p escaped. dr. gaster didn't ease the pain, he wanted me to suffer for what i'd done, for helping 2-p escape. human determination is lethal to monsters. but i'm not a monster, so i survived. it was very painful."
"What was, Sans..?" The therapist asked hesitantly. He didn't want to screw this up after finally getting Sans to open up. "the determination injections. it felt... it was like my body was being burned alive, dusting and putting itself back together again..."🤍🤍🤍
1-S was dragged into the lab room and strapped down. His bones from the torture had only just fused, they were still tender, they still hurt to be touched. The doctor didn't care though, weaponization needed to start immediately before 1-S could get anymore bright ideas. The human determination should strengthen this magic and its capacity considerably, once it was large enough, he'd add in the blasters. Integrating that sort of magic into a soul was an extremely painful process, Gaster knew that from experience, but in the end was very useful to the cause. 1-S begged and pleaded for his creator to give him some sort of sedative. "It will hamper the process." Dr. Gaster lied. He wanted 1-S to suffer. He wanted him to know never to escape or there will be consequences. Very, very bad consequences. The doctor inserted the needle into 1-S' soul, the boy screamed in agony. He left the experiment there to scream until he exhausted himself. And he would continue to do this for the rest of his existence. Because no matter how much you can try to block out the pain, you will always feel it.

After the session, Papyrus took Sans downtown to get him used to people. "I AM QUITE PROUD OF YOU FOR OPENING UP, SANS! IT'S THE FIRST STEP TO RECOVERY!" Papyrus was saying as they walked along. While the smaller skeleton had been listening at first, something had caught his attention, something he liked. He couldn't say he liked many things, but this, he liked. He even forgot about the humans that flocked and weaved around him for a minute. There was two things Sans could legitimately say he liked. Well, he'd never say it, but that's besides the point. Those two things were Papyrus and comfortable items. The blue zip up jacket that was being showcased in the window looked VERY comfortable. It took Papyrus a minute to realize Sans had stopped, he was always so quiet. "SANS?" Reluctantly, Sans looked away from the window, and went to Papyrus side, but the taller wanted to know what had caught his attention. Seeing the jacket, he turned to Sans. "DO YOU WANT THAT?" Sans hesitated to respond. "i cannot want. i'm only allowed what i need." Papyrus looked back to the jacket. "WAIT HERE A MOMENT." The taller disappeared inside the store, and Sans was left waiting. Soon he came back with a bag. "I AM NOT DOCTOR GASTER, SANS. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING, ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS ASK." He pulled the comfortable looking blue jacket out of the back, passing it to Sans. It was the first time he saw emotion from the "emotionless" skeleton. It was wonder. Sans' phalanges ran across the soft fabric, enjoying the feeling. Papyrus knew that he'd made Sans very happy.
