Sans had never been to a birthday party. He'd never had one. But he had been researching birthdays. While it was different for everyone, there was a few things in common. Food, games, and a gift. Most were done by the parents, aka Toriel, but gifts were given by all attending. Sans was determined to get Frisk the prefect gift. Something that they would cherish. This wasn't just for Frisk though. Call it selfish, but he was also testing himself. Seeing if he'd still have that trained urge to kill them after all this therapy and conditioning. To see if any of it worked. Or if all of this time was for nothing..

"Sans, Papyrus just in time." Toriel smiled as the boys entered the roller rink that Frisk wanted their party at. Sans tensed at the sudden overwhelming stimulation while Papyrus answered with a "WE WOULDN'T MISS IT FOR THE WORLD!" The music was loud, the lights flashed and moved, while humans and monsters alike skated around happily, often times adding to the nose by yelling to one another. Undyne, Alphys, and Frisk were among those on the rink. "WHERE DO WE PUT THE GIFTS?" Toriel made a follow gesture, seeming to notice Sans tension. She led them to one of the many party rooms, this one space themed. The walls held planets, stars, aliens (the classic green kind), the sun and moon.. there was a long table with galaxies patterning it. In the center was a cake with 'HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY, FRISK!' on it. There was also pizzas and sodas at the ready. In the far corner was another table with about five presents on it. Papyrus walked over to it, putting down his gift to Frisk.

"SANS DO YOU HAVE...one..?" Papyrus trailed off, seeing Sans completely enamored by their surroundings. He supposed, it was difficult to see the stars in the city. He hadn't seen Sans like this though, since he bought him that jacket and even then, this seemed much more powerful. "IT SEEMS WE'VE FOUND SOMETHING ELSE SANS LOVES." Toriel nodded, amused at Sans almost childlike wonder. The skeleton in question tentatively touched the wall, poking at one of the 'stars'. "are they ever this bright...?"
"They can be, if you're far enough away from the city." Toriel responded. Sans looked to Papyrus. "can we see them some day? the real stars?" Papyrus smiled. "BUT OF COURSE, BROTHER!" Papyrus agreed immediately, wanting to see more of this side of Sans. Sans smiled back before going back to his examination. "what're these?" He pointed at one of the aliens in its ufo. "The humans call those 'aliens' many believe that there is life outside of Earth, which is our planet." Sans tilted his head. "i suppose... under the right conditions, it's plausible.." Sans murmured to himself. "Well, feel free to eat than join everyone on the rink! Cake is at one!" Toriel went to join the others.🤍🤍🤍
Sans did not join everyone. It was... too much... out there. Sans was content, waiting for cake time in the space room, reading his joke book. "SANS? ARE YOU NOT GOING TO SKATE WITH EVERYONE?" Papyrus asked, coming in to check on him. "sounds like a blast but it's a bit to much for me. i'd skate to go out there and ruin everyone's fun." It went silent. Papyrus stared at Sans while Sans realized that he'd just subconsciously made two puns. "D-DID YOU JUST..."
"uh, yeah, i guess so.. heh." He'd done it! He was so proud of himself! Papyrus... walked out. He wasn't ready to deal with that. Nope.🤍🤍🤍
Cake time came and everyone was enjoying the treat. "ya know... this birthday thing is a piece of cake." Sans said randomly as he took a bite. Papyrus started staring, more in horror than surprise this time, at Sans again. Undyne started coughing, having almost choked on the dessert while Alphys patted her back. Frisk started laughing while Toriel snorted in surprise. Sans considered it a great success and grinned, winking at them. "TORIEL, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!?" Papyrus demanded. "grillby's was fun." Sans replied.

Last came the presents. Mk couldn't stay, but he'd gotten Frisk a geode. They loved the heart shaped item with crystals inside. Asgore had gotten them a new sweater, Toriel got them a new book. Alphys had upgraded their phone and Undyne got them a bibi gun. Papyrus got them birthday spaghetti. That was everything on the table. Finally, it was Sans turn.. he took a breath and stepped up. "i, uh, didn't have time to wrap it.. so just.. open your hands.. i guess.." Frisk did as they were told, curious. This was the closest he'd been to the human since they first met. Sans... didn't feel like he had to kill them. It was such a relief for him. PROGRESS!!! Anyway, he reached into his pocket and dropped something into their hands. Upon inspection, they realized it was a locket. A silver locket. "so... if ya look inside, i found this really neat picture of you with the others and made a shrunken copy to fit.." Sans explained uncertainly. He barely had time to brace for impact. They'd launched themselves at him, hugging him tightly... and Sans didn't mind. He kinda like the contact and hugged them back. "happy birthday, kiddo."
