Melody froze. It was her mother's voice that had echoed through her mind, not her father's. But her mother was in a coma-like condition. It couldn't really be her, could it?
"Melody, what's wrong?" Rory asked. Melody waved him off, trying to concentrate on the voice in her mind. It had gone quiet now, but she continued to listen just in case it had been real.
"Hello Sweeties." Her mothers voice was heard again, more real now. It was really her. Melody was sure of it. "Mum?" she asked hopefully.
"River?" her father asked to, sounding a bit taken aback.
"I'm here." River simply answered. Melody put a hand over her mouth as she silently broke down into tears. Someone hugged her and asked her something, but her focus was somewhere else.
"I missed you so much." was all Melody could get out.
"I missed you too sweetie." her mother's voice called back.
"But... you're in a coma." the Doctor said. He sounded like he was trying to control his emotions, just as Melody had failed to do.
"I know. I remember you now. But if you don't do anything soon I'll die. So. What's the plan?"
"We're going to force Madame Kovarian to reduce the memory wipe."
"She'll never do it."
"She's got to."
Melody was brought back to reality by someone harshly shaking her. She blinked to focus. Amy, pale and scared, stood before her, shouting her name.
"Melody? Can you hear me?" she said loudly. Melody nodded. Amy relaxed a bit, but she still looked pretty shaken up.
"What happened?" she asked. "Why are you crying?"
At the same time, The Doctor and River had started a conversation inside her head.
"No, no, no! Melody, don't leave us!" Amy said, but Melody had already closed her eyes.
"Madame Kovarian's office should be pretty deep down, and pretty central too." River speculated.
"Then I'll head down there. Also, there were some crashes before. Something wanted us to follow it. I don't know if it's friendly, so we may have to watch out for tha-" The Doctor was cut of by his wife.
"It was me, I tried to get your attention." Silence rung through Melody's mind.
"Where are you now?" the Doctor asked.
"I'm right beside you Sweetie." she answered. Melody gasped inside of her head. She could imagine her father down there, looking around himself, trying to find the love of his life.
"I can't see you." the Doctor stated, pain in his voice.
"No, you can't. But I can see you." River said sadly.
Someone slapped Melody across her face, and she instantly sat up and instinctively tried to punch whoever had slapped her. She hit something, and a cry of pain was heard. As Melody calmed down, she realized she'd hit Rory so hard his nose was bleeding.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean..." Melody began. Amy took her by the shoulders.
"Don't ever do that us again, okay?" she said in a serious tone.
"Do what?" Melody asked confused.
"You passed out." Yang said, looking down at her. Melody hadn't realized she'd done that. According to her, she'd only closed her eyes for a brief moment and then been waken up lying on the TARDIS floor.
"How long was I out?" she asked.
"A couple of minutes." Hawk answered. He looked worried.
"But I can't have. I was only gone for a moment." Melody said. She had heard of people that had passed out for hours and then woken up and thought they were only gone a few minutes, but experiencing it herself was a whole different thing.
"What happened? And don't say nothing 'cause we saw you crying." Amy said.
"I..." Melody began, not knowing where she was supposed to start.
"We time lords can do this thing. Husbands and wives, parents and childes, they have this connection. We can communicate with each other through our minds. I was talking to dad when..." Melody couldn't continue. Everyone looked at her, confused by the information they'd gotten.
"I heard my mother. We heard her. River is talking inside my head right now. I don't know why or how. But I see this as hope." she finished. Amy and Rory looked at each other, both of them with grateful expressions. Yin clasped Yang's and unconsciously, giving him a look of hope. Hawk seemed relieved, and Frank looked pleased. Ella stood leaning against the railing, the same expression on her face as Hawk. Melody looked at her little gang. Maybe they could do it. Maybe, just maybe, everything would be fine once all of this was over.
