"Melody, Angelina is here!" River called up to her daughter.
"Coming!" Melody shouted back, rushing down the stairs. River rolled her eyes fondly. Her daughter was always late. She always had something important that she just had to do before school. She was surprised she'd never heard some kind of complain from the teachers about that.
Angelina and Melody had dressed nearly exactly the same, both of them with the hair at the front braided and pulled back. Except for skin and hair colour, they looked like twins.
"You did that on purpose, didn't you." River said.
"No, mrs Pond." Angelina said and looked at Melody. She giggled. River rolled her eyes again, an irritating habit she'd gotten after moving into the bookstore with her family. She waved goodbye to the girls and then went over to the door to flip the sign from closed to open. She then went behind the cash register and waited for the customers to arrive. Usually she had at least ten minutes before anyone came, but as soon as she'd opened a book to read someone entered the store.
When River looked up, she saw her parents walk inside.
"Surprise!" Rory said. River instantly got up and hugged her parents.
"What are you doing here?" she asked happily.
"We where in the neighbourhood and figured you might be lonely." Amy answered. "Also, we bring cupcakes!" she said holding up a bag that smelled like freshly baked goodies.
"But it's your birthday! You shouldn't waste it on me." River said.
"I couldn't imagine anyone I'd rather celebrate it with." Rory answered fondly. "And we've got too many cupcakes for only us. We might even need your husbands help."
"Speaking of the Doctor, where is he?" Amy asked. "Doctor!" River shouted up the stairs.
"Yes?" Her husband came walking down the stairs. A smile spread over his face when he noticed his in-laws. "Ponds!" he said and gave them both a little too enthusiastic hug.
"How good to see you! And congratulations Roranicus! Shall we go upstairs?" They all agreed, and River went over to the door to change the sign from open to closed this time.
When they'd all settled down at the table inside the TARDIS kitchen and everyone had a cupcake in front of them, they began to catch up.
"Rory has gotten a promotion." Amy said excitingly.
"It's really not that big of a thing." Rory started, but he looked pretty pleased with himself.
"Of course it is!" River insisted.
The Doctor hummed agreeing. He couldn't talk because his whole mouth was filled with a chocolate cupcake he'd decided to eat in one bite.
"So what have you two been up to then?" Amy asked, taking another bite of her vanilla delight.
"We've carried on with the bookstore business..." River answered, thinking of the many things that'd happened lately.
"Oh, and we got invited to Frank's birthday party. He asked us to take you two with us." she remembered. "Why would Frank want us at his party?" Rory asked a bit surprised.
"Well, he seems to like you. Plus, you're in our age, so I don't see the problem." River said. She took a strawberry cupcake and started eating it.
"Normally you don't invite your friend's parents to your birthday party." Amy pointed out.
"Well, Frank is a bit special, actually." River said, lost in thought. Amy noticed that.
"River?" she asked.
"Yes?" River answered, still not fully present.
"You've been spacing out quite a lot lately. What is it?" "Nothing, just... things." River answered. The Doctor looked over at her, a fond smile creeping up on him unconsciously.
"I'm your mother, not blind. Tell us." Amy said. The Doctor looked a bit nervous, which was odd for someone who's daily job basically was fighting aliens.
"River?" Rory asked, finally understanding something was going on.
"Well, quite frankly a lot of things has been going on lately." River said.
"Yes?" Amy said, her tone telling River to go on.
"There has happened more than you two might know about." River continued.
"What do you mean by that?" Rory asked.
"Well..." River said, taking her time to answer his question.
"What I am trying to tell you is... I'm pregnant!" Shock spread over Amy and Rory's faces. They looked at each other in disbelief.
"Oh my God." Amy said, putting a hand over her mouth. "Oh my God!" she said again, less shocked and more excited.
"I'm going to be a grandmother! Again!" She ran over to River's side, hugging her fiercely. The Doctor sat awkwardly beside of her. When Amy had finished hugging her daughter, she decided that her son-in-law needed one too.
Rory was still in shock. He sure was excited and happy for his daughter as well, but he couldn't feel it yet. River looked at him, a big smile on her face.
"Happy Birthday, father dear."
