CHAPTER 2
"Mom, I'm home." I call out, smiling widely, while taking off my school shoes.
"Oh- hello sweetie, can you come here." I hear my mum's delicate sweet voice, coming from the kitchen.
"Yes, mom?" Grabbing a red apple from the fridge and sitting down on my creamy beloving sofa directed in front of her. After going to Church, it's always nice to eat apples.
I eye my mom from the corner of my eyes. She was wearing her expensive leather brown coat, her soft long brown hair, much like mine, was untied, softly moving in rhythm, like the ocean waves, as she keeps tilting her head to her paperwork.
"Sorry sweetie-" she began, her hazel eyes connecting with mine, "but, I think I need to talk to you about this matter."
"What matter?" I innocently reply.
"Well-" she hesitatly looks at the floor only for a second ,before looking back at me again. "You know I love you, Valentina , right?"
"Yes." I pause and smile sweetly, " I love you more."
"And you know, I would do anything to make you happy, correct?" I nod at her words.
"Okay- remember how you always wanted an older brother?" She sadly smiled, "and remember how I've always wanted another child?"
I slowely nod. Where was this going?
"For some time, I've been contacting Lisa and talking about this."
"Who's Lisa?"
"She's a social worker. She works in a foster care."
"Okay." I'm so confused. Where exactly is this going?
"Today, after your school finished, she called me. She had a new arrival, who was a teenager boy- he is one month older than you. She said we can adopt him."
Surprisingly, my jaw isn't hanging out, I just smile like I am completely fine, even though I'm feeling dizzy from all this information that I'm trying to protest.
"When can we adopt him?"
"Eager are we?" She winks, I innocently stare at her, waiting for her to answer my question.
"On Sunday."
And, that's when I welcomed blackness.
