Chapter 10

It had been a very long day and honestly all I wanted to do was to relax. Thanksgiving was a week away so I went to get some food. I had like a thousand tests on Monday, so I'd been studying for a very long time and I didn't feel like hanging out with my friends. Thankfully it was Friday. I climbed up on the roof and laid down. Charlie and I used to do this all the time at our old house when we were younger. I stared at the sky, trying to identify all of the constellations that I could see.

"Hey," said a voice that almost caused me to fall off of the roof.

"Hey, careful," Will said. I sat up and felt disoriented. I had been there for an hour, at least.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" I asked.

"Um, my brother is coming down here for Thanksgiving, so I wanted to tell you that I can't come anymore," Will said.

"Why not? Does your brother not like Thanksgiving or something?" I asked curiously.

"Well, he does, but we haven't celebrated Thanksgiving since my mom died," He said.

I felt bad for him and since I didn't know what he was feeling like, I didn't know what to say.

"Tell your brother to come over with you, I promise it will be fun," I told him. I was really looking forward to hanging out with him again.

"I'll try, but my brother's very stubborn. It won't be easy, but I think I can do it," Will agreed.

I mentally cheered. "Great! Do you want to go back inside, it's kind of cold out here," I said, as the November breeze blew my hair into my face.

Will laughed and moved my hair out of my face.

We were both silent then, and we were so close, I could lean over and we'd be kissing. I didn't know if I wanted him to kiss me. I don't think I'd mind that much.

Then of course, the wind blew again, and my hair fell into my face again. I shivered and moved my hair back. Will was starting to sit up and he went inside. He grabbed my hand and helped me come inside.

"Rayna! Dinner!" my mom yelled.

"Okay!" I yelled back. "Would you like to stay for dinner?"

"I should be going, I don't want to intrude or anything," Will said.

"Staayyyy, pleeaassee," I said and pulled out my words.

"Fine," Will said and I started walking out of my room, but I realized that Will and I were still holding hands. I pulled my hand out of his, and I blushed. I turned and walked out of my room.

"Mom, Dad, this is my friend Will," I introduced.

"Nice to meet you Mr, and Mrs. Adams," Will said politely.

"Nice to meet you too, Will," Mom said.

Dinner passed quickly after that, Mom and Dad asking Will about his life. When Will told my parents that his parents were dead, they fell silent and it stayed silent for the rest of dinner.

"I'm sorry, I ruined your dinner," Will apologized, when we were back in my room.

"It didn't get ruined. I could hear everyone thinking, and silence is better than getting yelled at, anyway," I assured Will.

"I should leave now," Will said.

"You can stay here, if you want. I could help you if you have a nightmare," I offered.

"But I would be interrupting your sleep," He pointed out.

"I get more sleep than you on a normal day, it's okay," I said.
