Someone is tapping the door.
Penn stumbles to see who it is.
His head hurts, and the earth is moving around.
Everything happens in slow motion.
To his surprise, it is his mother.
He forgot to call her; she must've been worried.
Penn lets his mother in.
His place is a mess, a gutter.
Empty bottles and food cover the floor in disgust.
Clothing hangs from the chairs.
One could barely walk; it is nauseating.
All that is good and clean are his paintings.
The few he hasn't sold.
Without a word, his mother starts cleaning.
But Penn will not let her; he is drunk.
He falls to the ground.
Karina ignores him; she has seen worse.
Being an artist, being creative, is nothing but sacrifice.
'Do you like my paintings?'
His mother does not answer or look.
She continues to clean; he can see her tears.
'Stop! Mum! Just leave me!'
Finally, his mother gazes back at him.
Her eyes show it all, then she says it.
'Penn! Just look at yourself!'
'Maybe it is best that you leave!'
His mother leaves, slamming the door behind her back.
Penn can get so angry.
Especially when his mother makes a scene.
If only he knew he'd never see her again.
