The man makes sure it is the correct address.
Then he knocks quite certainly.
It is very early in the morning.
The man has on a blue suit and tie.
With dread, Zadok now knows.
Fina comes to see who it is.
Maybe it is one of her friends, she thinks.
The man has a paper.
The man is undoubtedly from the bank.
Fina gently touches Zadok; they know what is coming.
'You are the Fedorov family?'
They nod, too afraid to say anything.
'Unfortunately, this is your notice of eviction and removal.
You only have a week.
You must be out of the house.
Or pay the full amount you owe the bank.'
The man hands the paper.
Zadok immediately sees the figure in red.
It is more than he thought it would be.
His heart beats even faster.
They will never raise so much money.
The man leaves without saying anything further to them.
Fina has started to cry.
Zadok is empty; he has no words.
The worst has happened; he has failed his wife.
'Where will we go Zadok?'
There are no answers to that question.
The image of the homeless man flashes before Zadok.
