Rings

"She's rambling on about you. How she's going to get revenge" I scoff and my head falls back "something about Camilo's birthday"

"I still need to get him something, what does he want?" I ask and they all shrug

"You have to ask him," Isa says and Dolores looks at me with worry. I brush it off, Sienna can't do anything to hurt me. After we talk about boys, Dolores and Mariano, Mirabel and the boy she danced with. Luisa doesn't say anything but I know she wants to talk about Mateo. I go up to my room and start pacing. What could Sienna be planning? How bad could it be? How far will she go? Thunder cracks outside and I bite my thumb. Someone knocks on my door

"Come in!" I call and Camilo comes in

"Hola Mi Vida"

"Hi" I say distantly

"Are you okay?" He asks, standing in my line
"Mhm! Just thinking about what to get your for your birthday" I say and he rolls his eyes, smiling

"You don't need to get me anything" He says and I take his hands
"But I want to, now give me ideas" He laughs
"Why don't we just go to town and look?"

"Sounds good to me" I say and we walk downstairs. It's still raining and I grab an umbrella

"Mamma, Y/n and I are going to town for a bit" Camilo yells and Pepa sticks her head out of the den
"Be safe please come back if anything happens" She says and we nod. We go outside and I open the umbrella. Camilo holds and offers me his arm, I put my arm through his and we walk down to town.

"So any special things you want to do for your birthday?" I ask and he looks at me
"A day with you"

"You can get that whenever" I say dismissively "what else?"

"Let me think," he says and we walk in silence. We get to the center of town, all the stands have tarps over them, we haven't gotten this much rain in a long time. We walk along the stands and I see him looking at the sweets stand.

"What do you want?" I ask pulling him up 

"I can-" He starts and I shush him

"What do you want?" I ask and I pay the woman. She gives me his favorite sweet and I smile at her. I give it to Camilo and kiss his cheek "early birthday present" I say and he takes a bite.

"I want matching somethings" he says finally
"Somethings?"
"Yeah, like necklaces or rings"
"Rings would be cute" I say and he nods,

"Right, you can get a prettier one and I can get a more manly one"

"Oh Amor, you're barely a man" I joke and he eats his sweet.

"You know what I mean, lets go look" He says and drags me to the jewelry stands

"What are you two looking for?" he asks

"Is there anything matching for a couple perhaps?" Camilo asks and the man shows us many rings. I pick up one with a silver band and the words 'Mi Vida' carved on the inside. Camilo shows me the matching one that says 'Mi Amor' and grins at me.

"How much?" I ask and the man smiles at us sweetly
"For free, for a beautiful young couple" He says

"I really don't mind paying" I insist and he shakes his head

"That's not necessary Senorita" Camilo slides the ring on my right ring finger and I blush. I do the same for him and the man beams at us. The band on mine is quite thin, Camilo's is thicker.

"Thank you Senor" Camilo says and I slip a twenty onto the table as I walk away.
"Well now I need another birthday present" I say and he kisses my hair

"I don't need anything" he says
"I know you don't but it feels nice to get something" I say and he nods, agreeing with me "I'll figure something out" I say and Sienna and Tyler block our path.

"Aw Y/n you break my heart, on a date with someone else" Tyler says

"Dude, not today" Camilo sighs and Sienna smirks at him.
"I have to get even with Y/n" She says walking up to me and I tilt my head at her

"Sienna leave us alone" I say evenly, I don't want to fight in any way.

"Too scared?" She taunts and Camilo holds my hand tightly. I sigh
"Yeah" I say and she looks taken aback.

"Hm" she says and saunters past us followed by her brother. We walk up the path and I open the door for him. We walk in and Pepa rushes to Camilo, Felix rushes to me

"Are you okay? Did anything happen?" he asks and I stifle a laugh
"We're okay" I say and he nods

"Good" he walks away and Pepa smiles at me and follows her husband.

"Pa really likes you" Camilo says as we walk up the stairs.

"Everyone does" I say and he laughs, I kiss him goodnight and go into my room. I sit on my bed and admire the ring. I slip it back on and sigh. I love him, I really do.
