Second Thoughts

"You're calling off the engagement?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Tyler, maybe we can come up with an arrangement" Alma says desperately. I walk back to my room. I pass the kitchen and they both look at me. Alma opens her mouth and Tyler runs towards me.
"Get away from me" I mutter and walk upstairs. I slam my door and sit on my bed. She doesn't care about my feelings. She can't marry me off, I'm not even related to her. I can't be in this house. I grab my bag and walk out

"Y/n!" Alma calls but I keep walking. I don't care about her. I walk for thirty minutes. I hold my head in my hands, I look at the pond in front of me. I slide to the ground and pull my knees to my chest and cry. God I hate crying, it makes me feel gross and my face all puffy. Maybe I'm not good enough for Camilo. Maybe Alma is right. It's starting to get dark so I walk back. I'm walking up the path when Mirabel runs at me and hugs me

"Thank god, we were so worried about you"
"I'm fine" She leads me inside, arm around my shoulder. Pepa runs towards me and hugs me.
"Dios mio" She holds my face in her hands "are you okay? Are you hurt?" Physically I'm fine

"I'm okay" She hugs me again
"Good, come eat" she sits me at the table and I sit there silently

"Y/n why did you leave?" Alma asks and I stare at her
"I was just upset"
"Why?" I look at Bruno and he nods
"Because I don't want to married off"

"Y/n" she sighs "he wanted to call it off"
"You didn't let him, you were trying to get rid of me"
"I am not" everyone is silent. I clench my jaw shut
"May I be excused?"
"Si" Julieta says and I leave. I go up to my room and Camilo chases me
"Y/n" I hug him. "I'm sorry" he mutters and I tighten my grip on him.

"I just-"

"Please. He won't bother you any more, I promise"

"You said what?" Pepa yells from downstairs and I hug him. Footsteps thump up the stairs and the floor flies open. "Y/n you are more than enough for Camilo, I wouldn't want anyone else to be with my son" She hugs me.

"Thank you" I whisper
"Don't let her words get to you, she doesn't understand the effect on other people." I nod and she gives Camilo a look. Felix hugs me and walks out.

"I'm sorry for everything" Camilo says I hug him
"Don't leave me" I whisper and I look at him
"I would never" He kisses my nose.
