Not good enough

He lets go of my shoulders and walks away. I clench my hands in fists and Dolores runs around the corner, her eyes wide. I take a deep breath and walk back to the dinner.

"Y/n, what do you like to do for fun?" Tyler's Abuela asks politely

"I really like reading and going outside. Of course I love hanging out with Dolores, Mirabel and my boyfriend Camilo" I smile, her smiles drops
"You have a boyfriend?"
"Si Senora" I nod
"Camilo Madrigal?"
"Si" she presses her lips in a line and smiles "would you look at the time, we best be going" She says and Tyler stands up, he looks furious and I look away. They leave and Alma spins on me
"Why would you do that?" She asks

"Mamma" Bruno starts
"I'm not marrying him" I interrupt "I don't love him. I'll never love him"
"You're being selfish, think of the family!" She yells and I clench my jaw

"I am thinking of the family! I'm thinking of Camilo" She looks at me

"You're not good enough for Camilo, you don't have a gift. If you want to be useful, marry Tyler" She snaps, the minute it come out of her mouth she frowns "Y/n, I didn't mean" She starts and I walk away. I walk up the stairs, tears stinging my eyes. Does she realize how much words hurt? No of course she doesn't. Camilo runs up to me
"What's wrong? What happened?" He asks and holds my arm
"Not now" I mutter and go into my room, closing the door before he can walk in.

"What did you say? What did you do?" He asks I assume Alma

I sit on my bed, my face in my hands. Someone opens the door and Bruno sits beside me. I hug him and he hugs me.

"I know Hija" He strokes my hair
"He said he'd hurt the family" I whisper
"What?"
"Tyler, he said. If I don't marry him he'll hurt the family" he hugs me tightly and kisses my hair
"I love you" he says and rushes out of the room. I lay on my bed and stare at the ceiling. I lay like that for a long time.
