Chapter Four: New Places, New Faces
~
~
~It is dark. And cold. The worst is the silence. It is so thick, you would need to cut it with a knife. Nothing is around him, yet everything is at the same time. He feels, yet he doesn't feel. There is no light, but how could this horrible darkness exist without it? He wants to know where he is, but the cool chill around him and the peaceful silence pull him back to sleep.
It feels like forever since he woke to this place. The silence is still there, not a single sound to be heard. It is almost calming, the silence. He feels at peace, yet he knows he must escape this dark world and return somewhere.
Finally, he hears something. It is so hard to concentrate on anything in this dark setting, but he still tries. There it is, again. A faint muffle. A small sound of... a voice. Someone is with him.
He struggles to hear more, but once again falls to sleep.
Next, a new feeling comes to terms with him. Pain. Great, ecstatic pain. He couldn't pinpoint where it is, because it feels like his whole body is in flames. He grows tired of the constant feeling, but he still cannot wake from his eternal seeming nightmare. Pain continues to assault his body, and as usual, he is powerless.
This day he hears more. He hears the voice of a man. The words are still jumbled, but he hears it. He feels antsy today. His body tingles, and the insatiable urge to move overcomes him. His body screams at him, screams to make the pain go away, to move, to do something other than sit there, or lie there, or whatever he is doing. The darkness is driving him mad, and frustration bubbles up within him. He wants to open his eyes already.
Throughout his time in the dark, still, silence, his eyes continue on the struggle to finally reveal themselves. They feel so heavy, and so tired, and sleep once again tries to overtake him. He fights on. Then, he sees something. Everything around him appears lighter, somehow. Still black, but lighter. Eventually, he does it. His dull, tired, strained eyes open.
Light immediately invades his whole vision. Funny to think he was just complaining about the dark, and now the light is practically killing him! He grits his teeth and squints his eyes and takes in the ceiling first. After the burning brightness calms down, he starts to look around. He is in a plain, white bed. It is so soft, though, and he revels in it for a moment.
Looking around some more, he sees next to him a small brown nightstand with a small lamp on it with a blue shade. By his bed also is an old chair. After that, nothing else is really in the room. A white dresser at the front of the room across from him and a long mirror hanging on the door of what appears to be a closet.
He looks to his right and sees a window that is open and a cool gentle breeze is blowing, making the short, white curtain sway in the wind. He closes his eyes and breathes. It is so peaceful, so calm, so quiet. The breeze feels nice now on his heated skin.
Then, he hears a door creaking. His eyes shoot open and he sees a man; probably the one he heard before. He is a short old man with graying hair tied into a stubby ponytail. He has warm, chocolate brown eyes and an easy smile on his face. He walks in with a tray in hand assorted with different foods such as waffles, fruits, eggs, and a glass of milk.
His eyes widen a bit when he sees the boy awake but quickly shakes it off.
"Well," his voice is smooth yet gravely,"I'm glad you're finally awake! I was getting a bit worried there."
The boy looks at the man as he steps closer."I got you some breakfast in case you would wake up. I hope his is alright?" He asks more than states. Looking at the food makes his stomach grumble, which is answer enough.
