A new day

It had been days, weeks even, Koda still couldn't find the strength to speak.  At times he would grunt out a weak, feeble protest at the men's actions but, he still felt numb, dead inside. He had both Adrian and Max infantilizing him. He is miserable. They could both see how exhausted, emotionless, unhappy he is, yet they didn't stop.
Nothing made them stop.
Was this really it?
Has Koda given up the fight? After a few short lived months.

Adrian began spending more and more time at home with his baby. He exude confidence that everything was fine, that he was still in control. He knew what he was doing. He was coming from a good, kind and caring place.
On the inside however, he was scared, terrified  Koda would never be the perfect little baby boy the billionaire envisioned him to be.

A knock on Adrian's office door bought him out of his deep musings.
It was a late Friday evening. Koda went to sleep so easily tonight, like he has been doing all week. All Koda wants to do lately is sleep, cuddle up to Adrian and Maxwell. The captured boy didn't even care what he was doing. He became so exhausted of living once more he couldn't find the strength to care.
"Good evening Sir," Maxwell edged quietly into the office as Adrian looked up.
"Maxwell, what is it?" Adrian asked dryly.

"I think it's time this stopped."

Adrian sat up a little straighter perplexed.
Before he could say anything Maxwell continued.
"Something has to give here, in the nicest way possible this kid isn't a little. I have been here over a month now and he's a vegetable, he's not happy, what you are doing, what we are doing is not working. You are essentially killing this kid Mr. Pennington. I'm sorry but this is not what I signed up for, if things are not going to change you have my formal resignation right here." Maxwell stayed in the doorway of the office ready to walk straight back out if Adrian starts going off on one.

Truth be told Maxwell said every single thing Adrian already knew. If it wasn't for the support of another adult like Maxwell, Adrian would have given up a long time ago.
No one feels more shame, more guilt, blinding anger than Adrian does. He's destroyed someone else's life for what? No one is happy right now. No one is thriving.
He knows things need to change. He's been wracking his brain every night for weeks now trying to figure out how he can still have a little boy. How he can still have his Koda.
Adrian is not ready to come to terms with the fact Koda will never be what he wanted him to be.
Adrian looked as broken as his boy. He stood up from his desk chair and brushed his pants, fixed his shirt before he handed Maxwell an envelope on his desk.
Skeptically, Maxwell creeped in and took the envelope.
"In our contract," Adrian began exasperatedly, as he walked around his desk to his little alcohol stand with his favorite whiskey bottle on. Pouring himself a generous glass, downing it in one he continued on.
"Which you signed, it states I can send you wherever I need you all expenses paid."
Maxwell had his own solicitors point out all the key factors of the contract he was signing so the news Adrian was stating wasn't particularly news to him. Max knew what he was signing up for. Although, this didn't stop the confused look on his face as the billionaire mentioned this.
"In the envelope, there's a round trip ticket for Toronto, go for the weekend, come back late Monday. The company has just signed a contract with another community over there. There's a couple with a rebellious little girl who they are trying to regress. I have offered your services out. Teach them, then come straight back here." Adrian told his employee.
Maxwell's throat came up dry as he heard his orders.
"What about Koda..." Maxwell half asked.
"Koda is my business, your concern is you're own. I shouldn't have to remind you either that you signed a five year contract with us. If you don't want to work as a nanny for myself I will find other jobs for you until your contract is over. If you still insist on leaving I will have you to court quicker than you can tell me you quit." Adrian bitterly spoke not even looking at Maxwell as he slumped back into his chair.
