Koda did turn up the next day, some asshole business man can not stop him from begging. He will have to call the police on him if he has that much of a problem. The money Koda gets here is worth the risk. He did bring his friend Jimmy with him today.
Jimmy has been homeless for years. He's in his thirties and quickly took Koda under his wing when they first met. He's a good friend. The only friend Koda has. Not like he needs him. They go days without bumping into each other, sometimes weeks. But they still look out for each other. They are there when needed.
"The money's good K but it's so dangerous being round here." Jimmy says through mouthfuls of food.
The men sit on the step appreciating lunch some lady bought out to them from the building behind.
"Why? How is being fed and given money dangerous?" Koda asks bewildered.
"Koda. Look around. There is no one else like us round here. This street has a bad rep. You won't know about it because you haven't been here long but anyone who spends too long begging on this side of town gets taken. Never heard from again. It's dangerous. No one knows what happens and no one gives a fuck about us." Jimmy explains on edge.
"Maybe they move on to better things." Koda muses.
"You're delusional." Jimmy retorts.
"Yeah well I might be but atleast I have more money for a decent doobie tonight. You gunna say no or what?" Koda grins.
"Shut your face up before I jump you myself and treat myself to the green stuff." Jimmy warns.
Koda can't help but laugh at his friend. The men take a slow walk back to their makeshift camp under the carriageway. Koda spent a couple days in camp with his loose friends getting high. Koda didn't bother begging for the rest of the week. He had what he needed in camp, drugs and food. That will do him for now.As the new week started Adrian got into work early feeling a lot better taking some time off to clear his mind. He was relieved and secretly saddened that he didn't see Koda this morning. Hopefully he did scare the boy away. Out of sight and out of mind for Adrian.
"Good morning Matthew. Coffee?" Adrian greets his business partner in his office as he walks in with two takeaway coffees.
"Adrian. Nice to see you! I was just about to send a search party out for you." Matthew teases accepting the coffee.
"How you been?" He asks.
"I'm good, back on track thanks. I got your email Friday about the new community. I like the idea, let's do a trial opening for six months. Who's going down to monitor it though?" Adrian gets straight into business not wanting to dwell on the previous weeks.Unfortunately kodas week didn't start as well as Adrians.
"What do you mean he wants money from me!" Koda cries.
"Dude you took his drugs and consumed the majority of them! He's going to fucking kill you!" Jimmy screams.
"How are you so fucking stupid Koda." Jimmy frets.
"I don't know... I don't know. I was high!" Koda says.
"Yeah try telling the big mafia boss that when he sends people out looking for your dumbass!" Jimmy states.
"Please man you have to help me!" Koda begs.
"Just keep a low profile ok? That's all you can do right now. Keep it low and hope to fucking god they cut their losses!" Jimmy reassures as best he could.
Koda took his friends drugs out of his tent without permission because he wouldn't give him any. He passed them round the camp and when Donny found out he was fuming. Koda didn't understand the extent people like him will go to get what they are owed. Through money or a life.
Koda spent the next couple of days constantly looking over his shoulder. The anxiety of his life being in the balance was tearing him apart. He didnt visit he usual spot outside penningtons building. He didn't go and see Tony for any coffees or favours. It was getting to the point for Koda now where he was beyond hungry. He became desperate and needed food. All day he has been trying to find jimmy whilst keeping a low profile. He didn't dare ask anyone who knew jimmy just in case he was on someone's hit list.
Reluctantly he made his way to he's usual spot. All he wanted was some food for his starved tummy. Or it wouldn't be the drug mafia that killed him off it would be starvation. It was past lunch time when he got there. He managed to get a couple bucks to spend at a convenient store from a couple of people on their way home from work. He wondered the streets the rest of the evening loitering about. He hasn't been at the homeless camp all week, he misses the shelter. Koda walks looking up and down every street for a cosy ally to lay his head down in. After a few hours he finds a quiet, desolate ally with nothing but big business trash cans in. He huddled up and rested.
