Koda woke up feeling absolutely awful. It felt as if he went on a weekend bar crawl with the feeling in his stomach and the pounding in his head.
He climbed out of his friends tent and proceeded to vomit the little contents in his stomach all over the floor.
Jimmy, who has been up a while walks over to Koda who's huddled over on the floor. He gives the boy a tissue to wipe his mouth.
"Thank you." Koda breathes. Sitting up he wipes his mouth.
"No problem K, you really shouldn't just accept pills. They fill them with all kinds of shit that kill your insides." Jimmy looks worriedly down at Koda.
Koda holds his arm up towards jimmy silently asking him for help up.
Jimmy pulls his friend up off of the ground.
"Don't worry about me. I'm fine. Still alive arnt I?" Koda grumbles as he walks away.
"Yeah don't sound too happy about that dude." Jimmy follows him.
"Have you got any cigarettes?" Koda asks.
"Uh I have tobacco. Gotta roll if you want one." Jimmy fishes in his pocket and hands Koda his supplies to roll himself a cigarette.
Koda sits next to the now dead fire which burned last night.
"What time is it?" Koda aks.
"Almost 11 dude." Jimmy tells him.
"Shit I gotta get going!" Koda gets up with his cigarette. Lighting his cigarette, he grabbed his backpack and went on his way.
"I'll see you later then!" Jimmy calls as Koda walks away from him.
He has to get back to his spot. He needs more money! He gives a wave behind him to Jimmy. Slowly, Koda makes his way to the centre of the city in hopes he gets there in time for the lunch rush.Meanwhile Adrian sits in what feels like an endless meeting. Talking finances with a bunch of accountants. He feels like he's not even needed here. All he does is confirm budgets and scribble his autograph on bits of paper that are put in front of him.
He's in a foul mood once again. He didnt see Koda this morning and that worried him. Where is he today?
After reading the file Felix put on his desk last night his hopes of taking Koda dissipated. He did not fit the criteria for a little. This saddened Adrian but he just couldn't get the boy off of his mind.
It's likely he'll never see the boy again. Many of the homeless come and go regularly there is so many of them it's hard to count. Adrian never noticed any of them up until he bumped into koda.
As the meeting was bought to an end Adrian took his files and laptop back to his office.
As he walked in he saw Matthew on his computer. This irritated him even more.
"Matthew." Adrian sighed throwing his stuff down on a small glass coffee table in front of a small sofa.
"That meeting took you nearly two hours." Matthew said.
"I was waiting for you to grab lunch." He added.
"Yeah I had to sit through it don't remind me." Adrian states.
He notices the blue folder of kodas info on his desk and wants to move it before Matthew sees its.
He goes over to Matthew and leans to grab the file. Matt gets there first standing up with the file in his hand, he opens it.
"Matt. Don't be a dick. Give me it." Adrian hisses.
"Uh uh uh... temper temper mr. Pennington." Matthew teases.
Adrian almost growls in anger.
" Koda Bailey Wiles. 17 years old. Homeless. Koda has an addictive personality with dangerous spontaneous outbursts. Left family home six months ago due to drug addictions and parents not agreeing with life choices of male partners. Koda has a very dominant personality who seems to attract danger and does without thinking first. He is a lone individual not needing company or friends to cope with day to day life." Matthew reads the summarising paragraph about Koda in the file out loud.
Adrians blood is boiling.
He strides over and snatches the file out of his hand. Adrian slumps in his chair and rams the file into his desk draw.
"What the fuck are you playing at Adrian!" Matthew shouts.
"He's seventeen years old for fuck sake. You can't take him! He fits none of the fucking criteria and goes against everything we have built here. All our policies and standards! Talk to me! What the fuck is going on with you man!" Matthew seethes.
Adrian puts his head into his hands. He knows all this. It's so fucking hard.
"I know Matthew! I fucking know! I won't act on it. I'm not doing anything about it. I just needed to know more about him. You don't understand. When he fell on the floor yesterday I didn't see the boy in that file. I saw a defenceless, scared little boy who had the world weighing down on his shoulders. I just can't stop thinking about him! It's driving me fucking insane!!" Adrian grabs at his short hair frustratedly.
