Maudie POV

"Okay Yvette, what book have you chosen for me to read today?" I asked as I sat down on the rocking chair.

Sometimes, I volunteer to read books to children at the library.

"Here." Yvette said, handing me a book.

I grabbed the oddly thick book from Yvette and I read the title.

'All is fair in love and war: The modern version'

"Yvette, we can't read this for everyone. Though, may I ask, why these types of books?" I said.

"Oh you know me, I'm a hopeless romantic." Yvette said.

"Your 7." I said.

"So?" Yvette asked.

I smiled and sighed.

"Well I guess I could read the summary instead." I said.

I turned the book over.

"Okay, so..." I said.

Ezra POV

I was searching for some books to read when I heard a familiar voice in the distance.

I followed it and it led me to the kids section of the library.

Then I saw her.

Maudie.

I immediately squatted down to hide behind some tiny book shelves.

I took small peeks of Maudie.

She was reading a story summary for the children.

"Knowing that they will never happen because of their families, Smile ran away to England to live a better life and start over." Maudie said.

What?

Did Maudie pick this book or is it the kids?

I've read this book before.

Its called 'All is fair in love and war: The modern version'

Children nowadays like romance novels?

I watched them from the distance.

The way Maudie spoke was so peaceful..

So gentle.

I understand why kids would want her to read them stories.

A little kid pushed me from the back.

I lost my balance and fell on the floor with a big thud.

It blew my cover.

I glared at the kid who pushed me.

"Ezra?" Maudie asked.

I looked at her and immediately stood up.

"Yep, Its me." I said.

"What are you doing?" Maudie asked me suspiciously.

"Uhhh....." I said.

Suddenly the little kid who pushed me grabbed my hand.

"We're hanging out." He said in a squeaky voice.

I stood there and looked at him.

He nudged my gut.

"Y-yeah." I said as I rubbed my gut in pain.
