Ezra POV

"That is the weirdest, yet sweetest love story I have ever heard." Maudie said.

I nodded in agreement.

Though it was a very Madeline and Bryan way to fall in love.

Back then, Bryan told stories about Madeline to Maudie and I

On how she was like a young heroine.

I remember it would just be the 3 of us in Maudie's room, snacking on pineapple pretzels as Bryan told us his adventures with Madeline.

Those were the good times.

"Ye,s it is very strange." Mrs Maniaci said.

"Okay so what is the next clue?" Maudie asked.

"I'm underneath the- You know what? I'll save you the trouble, its buried somewhere around the tree." Mrs Maniaci said.

I stared at her blankly, what a way to ruin a treasure hunt.

"Well, I'm off." Mrs Maniaci said as she walked away.

Maudie and I rushed back to the tree.

Maudie frantically got on her knees and started digging with her bare hands.

I got on my knees and started digging too.

"What's going on?" A familiar voice said.

I looked up and saw Kyle and Ava.

Ava was on Kyle's back.

"What's going on between the two of you?" I asked.

"Nothing." They said in unison.

"But why is Ava on your back?" I asked.

"Well, I lost a bet-" Kyle said.

"GUYS, I need to focus on my digging so you can either help me or shut the fuck up." Maudie yelled.

She looked really tense and stressed.

Kyle, Ava and I looked at each other with the same look on our faces.

We knew it was best not to make her crossed.

Ava got off Kyle's back and they both got on their knees to help us dig.

We kept digging and digging.

We knew how important this was to Maudie.

It's also important to me.

Suddenly I felt something hard and rough.

I dusted the dirt off it and realized it was a treasure chest.

"I found it." I said.

Everyone's eyes were on me.

"Quick, take it out!" Maudie said frantically as she grabbed my shoulder tightly.

I started digging as fast as I can

Soon, I dug it up. 

I tried pulling it out but it was really stuck in there.
