Sheltered from the Storm (Knuckles & Rouge)

Knuckles was laying on the Master Emerald, he was laying on his back and was half-asleep. It had been a pretty peaceful, boring day today. Knuckles had spent most of the day lounging around the island and taking care of the Chao and other creatures had inhabited it, the only excitement he had gotten all day was when Sonic dropped in unexpectedly and challenged Knuckles to a competition to see how fast he could run up a mountain compared to Knuckles climbing. Knuckles won much to his surprise and Sonic thanked him for the race and promptly left. Knuckles was just about to drift off to sleep when he heard a voice call out to him from somewhere in the distance, Knuckles sat up and listened carefully, it was Rouge the Bats voice. Knuckles growled with anger and distrust, 90% Rouge came here she tried to steal the Master Emerald and the other 10% of the time she needed him to come on some far-away mission that left his home vulnerable to attack. Knuckles kept listening and realized that it sounded like Rouge was in trouble, Knuckles got off the Emerald just in time to see Rouge flying down from the sky as fast as her wings count take her, she quickly flew over to Knuckles with a scared look on her face.

Rouge: "Knux, it's possible for you to just pick up and move the Master Emerald to pretty much wherever you want right?"

Knuckles: "Yep, why what's wrong?"

Rouge: "Ok good, because I was flying around and saw that a HUGE storm was coming this way so I came down here to warn you."

Knuckles: "Oh crap, we need to take shelter quick, come with me!"

Knuckles picked up the Master Emerald and started running over to a cliff overlooking the island with Rouge following close behind. Knuckles arrived at the cliff face and put down the Emerald, Knuckles walked along the wall while running his hand along the wall at the same time, then Knuckles found a seemingly innocent looking stone and pressed it, a hidden door opened and Knuckles picked up the Master Emerald again and rushed inside the hidden chamber. Rouge walked instead in awe, there was a lot about this place she didn't know. Knuckles pulled a lever on the inside wall of the cave and the door closed again just as storm clouds began to roll in.

Rouge: "Wow...looks like we got here just in time."

Knuckles: "Yeah, thanks for the heads up Rouge, I really appreciate it."

Rouge and Knuckles stood there in silence for a minute before Rouge started up a conversation. Well, less of a conversation and more of an apology.

Rouge: "Sorry..."

Knuckles: "What?"

Rouge: "Im really sorry...for trying to steal the emerald so much....I just really like shiny things and the first time I saw the Master Emerald I just couldn't contain myself. I'm sorry for making your job harder." "It won't happen again."

Knuckles: "It's okay, believe it or not it's actually a nice surprise whenever you come by, even if it's to steal the emerald." "It tends to get kinda boring around here."

Rouge: ". . .Really?"

Knuckles: "Yeah, you can come around whenever you want as long as you don't steal the emerald. Does that sound fair?"

Rouge: "Absolutely Knux."

Knuckles and Rouge waited out the storm by talking and laughing together, growing a little closer with every passing minute. The Master Emerald glowed slightly the whole time, impressed by the bond they shared.
