A few years passed and things hadn't really gotten better for la familia Madrigal.
Camilo barely talked anymore and was far more closed up. Pepa was always upset. Abuela was even more strict with everyone.
Everybody was still mourning the loss of Mirabel. Dolores always checked up on her little brothers. Especially Camilo. Out of everyone, Camilo had been one of the ones to take it the hardest.
Of course, there were a few people who took it really hard. Isabela and Dolores both took it pretty hard too, considering they were the ones who found her and Dolores heard her screams and cries for help. But Dolores only cared about making sure her brothers were safe and okay.
She wasn't sure how to tell everyone about her newfound discovery. She didn't know if now was the right time.
Everyone was gathered up at the table, quietly eating.
She wondered if she should tell them now, since they're all there together, which is something that rarely happened now.
Abuela ordered Camilo to sit up straight.
Dolores picked at her food a bit, lost in thought.
"Dolores?"
"Hm?" She looked up to see who had said her name.
Surprisingly, it was Camilo. "Are you okay?"
"Sí, sí. Just... thinking." Dolores looked back down at her food.
"Like?"
Dolores was nervous. She wasn't sure if she should tell them. Was now the best time? They would find out eventually.
Dolores took a small shaky breath in, yet didn't say anything. She felt incredibly nervous, not knowing how they would react.
"Hermana?" Antonio asked.
"Okay..." Dolores let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. "I'll tell you... but you can't get mad..." Everyone nodded supportively.
Dolores took another shaky breath in before slowly exhaling and breaking the news, "I'm pregnant..."
"Really? I'm going to be a Tío?"
"You aren't married!"
Dolores ignored her grandmother's comment about her not being married to catch the reactions of the rest of her family. Everybody else seemed to be ecstatic for her.
"Guys! I'm going to be a Tío!" Camilo kept repeating.
Julieta, Agustín, Isabela, and Luisa all seemed to be very happy for her as well.
"Congratulations, prima!" Luisa said.
"I'll be an Abuela," Pepa smiled. "This is great news, mi vida."
Dolores smiled at her family. "Thanks, everyone. Your support means a lot to me."
"Of course."
Dolores could finally relax a bit now that she got that off her chest.
"How far along are you?"
"About a month, give it take."
"How long have you know?"
"Mariano is the father, right?"
"I've known for about a week, and yes, Mariano is the father."
Camilo grinned, this was the most he's talked in a while. "This is amazing."
