TW: Mentions of murder and death
———————————————————————
"Okay... First thing's first. We have to find out everybody who was there that night in the village. Keep in mind that everybody is a suspect." Sofia said as she and Camilo walked through the village. Sofia was looking around, seemingly suspicious of everyone.
"Sof, half the people are children."
"Okay, which means the other half of them aren't children." Sofia pointed out. "Which also means that they're suspects."
"Okay," Camilo played with his poncho. "What happens if we find them?"
"Interrogation." Sofia said with some type of determination in her voice. It wasn't exactly determination, but it also was.
"Then what?"
"We interrogate them, figure out where they were the night Mirabel was murdered, determine if they have a clear alibi, and that will eventually lead to our culprit." Sofia explained further, continuing to look around for her first suspect.
"Right." Camilo nodded.
"So. You know the majority of people in town, yes?" Sofia questioned for Camilo to verify.
"Yep."
"All right, so you make the call. Who is our first suspect?" Sofia asked, looking at her uncle.
"Bob. He's got a weird name and he's been around for as long as I can remember. He's really creepy."
Sofia pondered that for a moment. "Okay, so be it. Where can we find this guy?"
"He lives on the edge of the town."
"All right. We shall head there and interrogate." Sofia said somewhat enthusiastically. "Lead the way!" She paused. "Because I don't know where we're going!"
Camilo chuckled and led her to Bob's place. Sofia knocked on the door solidly upon arrival.
"Just a minute."
Sofia waited patiently. She wanted answers, but there was really no reason to be rude and just barge into someone's house about it.
Soon the door opened. "Hello."
"Hola, Señor. My name is Sofia and this is my Tío Camilo." Sofia introduced herself and Camilo and paused slightly before continuing. "We have a few questions we would like to ask you."
"All right, come in."
Sofia whispered to her uncle, "proceed with caution." This wasn't loud enough for Bob to hear. The two cautiously followed Bob into his house.
Camilo nodded silently at her words. He didn't really trust Bob, no one did.
"So, Bob, is it?" Sofia asked in a type of interrogation voice. It was calm and collected, but low and a little quiet.
"Yes."
"You're probably wondering why we're here." Sofia assumed, using the same tone of voice she had just used.
"I am, yes."
"Well, as you have probably heard, a certain relative of mine has been brutally murdered." She paused. "About twenty years ago." She paused again. "And I am on a quest to figure out who did it."
"Twenty years ago?"
"Sí." Sofia nodded. "Mirabel Madrigal. The name ring any bells to you?"
"Mirabel... no."
