FlashBack:
Walking to my house with my six-year-old little sister Kristy after a long day at school, I got out of the school bus with her so we are just walking now "Sissy, I'm tired" Kristy whines as her grip on my hand tightens, she slumps her shoulders and drags herself to the house "When we get home you can take a nap" We live in Dresden where it's pretty quiet. My mom couldn't pick us up from school since she has late night at the office, she works as an assistant for an Accountant named Brian Carson. I hear her always talking to him over the phone on the weekends, not about work, they seem to be friends.
My dad doesn't work, he is currently unemployed and has been for three weeks, he looks after me and my sister, sometimes he has arguments with mom due to financial difficulties. He never drags us kids into his drama with mom, he is always so happy to see us even though he just argued with my mom, he hides his anger from us so he doesn't scare us. We step inside the house and I lock the door behind me "Daddy" I holler and I see him step out of the kitchen "Hi kids" He smiles at us "Daddy" Kristy bolts in his arms "I missed you both so much" I give him a hug as well, my dad carries Kristy in his arms squeezing her really tightly "We missed you" I smile at him "Are you guys hungry? I'm making dinner for all of us even for mom, we don't want to exhaust her out with more work" He pokes Kristies nose and she giggles uncontrollably
"We want mommy to be in a good mood because mommy becomes very angry when she is tired and we don't want that" My dad giggles, we walk to the kitchen and sit down around the dining table "Daddy, I'm sleepy" Kristy tugs on his arm as he fills us both a glass of water "Take a nap after you both eat my fancy cheeseburgers, I know you guys love it when I cook" I smile widely. My dad is the best chef, he always cooks us our favorite meals, he seriously makes the best burgers "Ughh I love your burgers, wish mom can cook for us" I sigh "With all the late nights at the office she has been having lately I don't want her to do more work at home when I can do them myself, mommy is always very tired" I nod in agreement "I wish she can take a break from work" I sigh "I wish too, Brian wants her to complete her work during office hours so she can come home to us but sometimes mommy can't so he keeps her behind to finish" Dad explains "She should get them done on time so we can spend more time with her" He nods
"She has many responsibilities being his assistant, according to her he gives her a lot of work to do that keeps her in her office" Dad says as he now places the burgers on the plates "He doesn't sound like a good boss" Dad brings over the burgers to the table "He pays her well and recently he doubled her paycheck which is enough to keep living in this house and pay our bills, mom is a hero and the best wife to me even though she has her days where being in the same room with mommy is a headache" Kristy laughs even though I don't find it very funny, mom has mood swings from time to time which drives my dad nuts "Enjoy" Dad sits down in between us and now we all start to eat our burgers "Can you help me with my math homework, dad?" I ask him
My dad is crazy good at maths, he explains it like it's the most easiest thing in the world "When is the homework due?" He asks me as he eats his burger "Monday, next week" I tell him "You have plenty of time, relax today, you can do it tomorrow" My dad says with a mouthful "You're right" I smile at him "This is yummy, daddy" Kristy giggles "Only the best for my princesses" He smiles at both of us like he is proud to have us. After we finish dinner I tuck my little sister in bed so she can get some sleep "Happy nappy, baby" I kiss her forehead "I love you" Kristy smiles at me then yawns "I love you more" I giggle and see her slowly drift off to sleep. Once she is asleep I get up from her bed and exit her room, I leave the door a little bit open so she can get some light in her room from the hallway.
Kristy hates sleeping in the dark, she insists I keep the door open for her, she is afraid of monsters, she swears she hears noises in the house but that's just mom and dad chatting in the kitchen or the living room while we are both trying to get some sleep. When I asked her what sort of noises she hears she says the noises sound scary, she can't quite tell what they are so now I'm sleeping in the same room as her to give her comfort and ease her little mind so she can get some sleep.
