During the last trimester an ultrasound is typically not needed. If your pregnancy is a high risk pregnancy then your OBGYN will schedule you for some closer to your due date.

Dr. Karissa: Hey Kailey!
Kailey: Hey Karissa! How's it going?
Dr. Karissa: I should be asking you that question missy.
Kailey: You are right lol. I'm feeling alright. Lately I've been having some small lower back pain, but nothing to in unmanageable.
Dr. Karissa: That's good. Really? You know what that means right?
Kailey: Omg what?
Dr. Karissa: It means that your sweet baby girl is beginning to prepare herself for her grand entrance to this world.
Kailey: Ahhh! I can't believe it is finally time.
Dr. Karissa: Oh yes ma'am it is. Speaking of which did you want to schedule a last ultrasound appointment? You don't have to but with it being your first baby you are more than welcome to.
Kailey: Awww 🥺. We can! I know that Ross will definitely want to see his baby girl one last time before he holds her in his arms so soon.
Dr: Karissa: Yay! Have you made your list of who you would like to have in the hospital/delivery room with you?
Kailey: I have been thinking about that. I am going to keep it simple and have Ross (obviously), my mom, Ross' mom Stormie, and our friend Samantha as a L&D nurse.
Dr. Karissa: What a good group. Yes, with us being friends with Samantha for years and years now we can definitely use her in the delivery room.
Kailey: Exactly!
Dr. Karissa: What time did you want to schedule your appointment for today?
Kailey: Let's do after lunch around 1:30. That will give me plenty of time to get ready, ask Stormie if she wants to join too, eat, and miss any crazy LA traffic. It will also help with me eating to let baby girl be active.
Dr. Karissa: That works for us. Yes! I was just about to say that. It will be great to see her active. We will also be able to tell what week that baby girl is measuring and if there is a small chance that you have already dilated also.
Kailey: That will be perfect. See you soon then!

Dr. Karissa: Alright Mrs. Kailey it looks like baby girl is measuring at around 18 inches long, which makes you 36 weeks pregnant.
Dr. Karissa: You have a total of 4 weeks left of your pregnancy!
Dr. Karissa: Since this is your first birth, your baby will most likely drop lower into your pelvis this week. Don't be afraid by this because this is just your baby letting you know that they are preparing for birth.
Dr. Karissa: If you have any questions or concerns feel free to call me and let me know. If you start to feel any pain or notice any spotting call me immediately. Other than that you all are free to go, I look forward to seeing you soon when the big day is here!
