For the most part, the school was split on whether or not I had a partner. I would reject people but Blaise wouldn't admit nor deny being my date. During study hall, I finished my homework and handed it to Professor Snape. He smacked my brother's and Ron's heads because they were talking too loud and I stood in between Ron and Angelina. I flicked my tongue at George. I finally built enough confidence to ask Fred.

"No date yet, Georgie?" I asked playfully.

Fred and George looked at me, "No. What about you, love?"

I shook my head, "I was about to ask for a date."

          George smirked, "Me, too."

Fred looked annoyed and threw a note to Ron.

Ron read it aloud, "Get a move on or all the good ones will have gone."

He crumbled the note and threw it at Fred, "Who are you going with then?"

I looked at Fred eagerly but he threw the ball at Angelina. George was already mad and I was shocked. Fred mouthed if she wanted to go to the ball with him and she said yes. George angrily hit Fred.

"You git! I fancy her! I wanted to ask her!" he whispered angrily.

Ron was also fighting with Hermione now since he tried to ask her the same way Fred asked Angelina.

"I thought you and Ivy were going with the way you two were talking," Fred whispered defensively.

"I was going to ask you, Freddie," I said loudly and sadly.

Everyone looked at me and I was blinking back tears. Fred had a look of instant regret and George was opening his mouth to me. I hate this. Why can't anything go right?

I put my hand up at George, "No. Don't ask, Georgie."

Hermione got up angrily and gave her work to Professor Snape.

I looked at Ron and Harry, "Ron, no. Just in case, Harry, no."

Hermione took my hand and she and I left the Great Hall together, upset. She brought me towards the kitchen and we stopped in the walkway near some barrels. I hugged Hermione. Boys are stupid.

"Ron is pretty pathetic sometimes. Don't take it personally. I look forward to seeing your date, Hermione," I said softly.

"Ivy, do you really not have a date?" she asked.

"No. It's even more pathetic than Ron," I said sadly.

"Well, let's cheer you up. I know the ball is in a couple days but let's go dress shopping tomorrow. I have a surprise for you as well," she said and brought me into the kitchen.

Cedric's POV: I was heading out of the common room to meet Cho in the library when I overheard Ivy and Hermione talking by the barrels.

"Ron is pretty pathetic sometimes. Don't take it personally. I look forward to seeing your date Hermione," Ivy said softly.

She sounded sad and I wondered if Hermione got into a fight. What would she take personally? There was some mystery around her date. Ivy was mysterious, too.

"Ivy, do you really not have a date?" Hermione asked.

I stopped breathing. She doesn't have a date? That can't be right. We all heard about Draco talking Parsley. Or Peony?

"No. It's even more pathetic than Ron," she said so sadly.

"Well, let's cheer you up. I know the ball is in a couple days but let's go dress shopping tomorrow. I have a surprise for you as well," Hermione said and I heard them go into the kitchen.

What the hell? Cho said Roger had just asked her when we overheard the commotion in the Great Hall. The ball is only two days away! How could Ivy not have a date? I haven't been this angry before and I confronted Cho in the library. She was rather flustered but she insisted she wasn't lying and that it was just a mistake. I angrily left without tutoring her. If I knew Ivy didn't have a date then.. I would've loved to be her date. During dinner, there was quite the commotion since news spread that Ivy had no date and she was going to ask Fred. It was eating at me. I heard she turned down George and Ron.

I saw her come in but one of the twins was holding her hand. They always were close. No one but her could tell them apart. I leaned back to hear their argument as they passed by us.

"George, I'm not going with you," she said angrily.

          What the hell?

"Ivy, I don't have a date and you don't either. Why did you reject me before I could even ask?" he asked.

"Georgie. You know how much I care for you and Freddie. I care a lot about other people's feelings. Seamus is going with Lavender so I can't go with Dean. They would never forgive each other. Neville is going with Ginny so I can't ask him. Blaise asked during practice which made Draco ask Pansy. Even if champions could take each other as a date, Cedric asked Cho after I rejected Roger. Roger is going with Fleur anyways," she explained while standing behind us.

No one seemed to realize my friends and I were listening.

"Ive, love, how do you know champions can't take each other?" he asked.

          I was curious, too.

"Because I asked! Oh!" she exclaimed.

It sounded like she slapped herself. My friends realized I was red and tried to stay quiet. She was going to ask a champion? Was she going to ask me?

          "You asked? Why?" George asked.

"To be honest with you, I knew who you fancied so I wasn't going to ask you. I was going to ask Cedric. Since he asked Cho, I was going to ask Fred. Look, I'm not going with Ron either. He and Hermione had a nasty fight so I don't want there to be any misunderstandings. I'll figure something out. Worst case, maybe I'll ask Justin," she said and I knew she was red from her tone of voice.

"Justin is taking Susan, love," George said softly.

"Of course he is. I'll talk to Viktor, maybe some of his friends are available," she muttered and stomped away to the Slytherin tables.

          Behind us, George walked to his table and I didn't know what to say, let alone think. For once, my friends didn't know what to say either.  She really was going to ask me. I would have said yes. {END}

I walked up to Viktor, despite Draco and Pansy sitting beside him.

          "Hello, Viktor," I greeted.

"What do you want?" Pansy snapped.

"Ivy, to what do I owe the pleasure?" he asked as we both ignored her.

"Do you perhaps have a date to the Yule Ball?" I asked sheepishly.

Everyone looked at him and then me.

He cleared his throat, "I do. Ivy, do you not have a date?"

I looked away and flicked my tongue, "No."

Pansy started to laugh but when I looked at Draco, he was distraught. Viktor told me that all of his classmates were taken and apologized to me. I weakly laughed and told him it was ok. Regium rubbed against my legs and I excused myself to follow her outside. She led me to Blaise by the common room entrance and he was petting Salem. Blaise was going to be my date.
