Chapter Fifty: Past

          When we got to the gargoyle, I used the password since Harry forgot and we slowly ascended to the headmaster's office.

          "You saw it, too?" Harry asked.

          "Yeah. Same place as summer," I replied.

          Before we knocked on the door, we overheard voices yelling. It was the Minister, headmaster, and Mad-Eye. Apparently, Mr. Crouch was missing and there was some arguing over the status of Bertha Jorkins. The talking stopped when Mad-Eye realized we were outside the door and it opened before we could knock.

          We were instructed to wait in Professor Dumbledore's office as he and Mad-Eye take one last examination of the campus ground for Mr. Crouch. While we waited, I noticed something reflecting light in the corner. Harry noticed and we held our hands as we went to it. He touched the surface with his wand and we looked at the reaction. Suddenly, we were screaming as we were falling into a courtroom. We landed in some seats in the hearing room beside the headmaster. No one could hear us and people passed through our bodies. It was a trial held by Mr. Crouch against Igor Karkaroff, Durmstrangs's headmaster. In the courtroom, we saw Mad-Eye and Rita Skeeter. He was giving names of Death Eaters, including Severus Snape. The headmaster in the memory said that Snape was a spy working against Lord Voldemort. Then, we saw a different trial where Mr. Bagman was accused of passing information to Lord Voldemort, but his popularity cleared his name. Lastly, I squeezed Harry's hand when we saw the next memory. I saw the woman that I believed to be my mother for over a decade. Next to her was her husband, who I thought was my father. The other man in the group looked someone we'd have seen before. It was Mr. Crouch's son, Barty Crouch Junior.

          When it was revealed that the trial was for the torture of Frank and Alice Longbottom, I knew exactly who they were. They were Neville's parents. I heard firsthand of Bellatrix asking about my future and how my guardianship was given to the Malfoys. Mr. Crouch sent his own son to Azkaban with the rest of the Death Eaters there. Suddenly, we were pulled out of the memories by our current Professor Dumbledore.

          We apologized but told him what happened in Divination. He believes that we have a connection with Lord Voldemort and that it only happens when Lord Voldemort is feeling strong emotions or if he is close to us. I told Professor Dumbledore that Mr. Crouch's son looked familiar and I thought I saw him at the Quidditch World Cup as the man who casted the Death Mark. I insisted that I believed that he was the man in our nightmares. The headmaster told us that those are only nightmares and that Mr. Crouch's son died in Azkaban and was buried there. We were also told that we can not reveal what we learned about Neville's parents and why the Cruciatus Curse affects him so badly. Lastly, before we were dismissed, Professor Dumbledore told us that it was his idea to have Sirius stay in the cave near Hogsmeade. Harry told me that he was going to share most of the information with Ron and Hermione and I went to my common room feeling a lot of hatred for a lot of people.
