I was woken up to Cass sleeping peacefully at my side, I didn't want to wake her up. I slowly left Cass's side and changed out of my pajamas. I was still thinking about Normans condition. I put my clothes in my bag and looked at the time "Eight hours to be Spider-Man." I put on my web shooters and looked back to Cass. She was still asleep. I quickly grabbed some paper and wrote a note telling her I left.
I looked out the window and dived out of it. It was daytime so nothing much was going on. I was smiling, even though I haven't been a vigilante for long, I've made some type of change in the city. My phone rang, it was Luke. "What's up?" I asked, answering my phone. "Hey Y/N, I was looking through some old videos of Bruce's advice and he wanted to teach you one more lesson, however he's still recovering. So, I'm going to tell you what he wanted to teach you." Luke told me, I looked around the peaceful city. Still surprised at how Gotham was quiet for once. "I'll be there in ten." I told Luke, swinging over to the manor.
I landed in front of the door and walked inside. Alfred was at the door. "He's in the garden." Alfred said, I nodded and walked away. The backyard was massive, trees and plants blooming all around. However the spot Luke was standing at had three graves and three flowers for each of them.
MARTHA WAYNE.
THOMAS WAYNE.
JACE FOX.
I noticed Luke was standing over Jace's, I walked over to him. "So what'd Bruce want to say?" I asked him, Luke stared at the grave of Jace in silence. "Do you know who this is?" Luke said, turning his head towards me. I didn't. "No." Luke turned his head back, he seemed disappointed. In himself. "This is Jace Fox, my brother. He died two months before you came around. He was supposed to be Batman if something ever happened to Bruce." Luke told me, I knew he didn't want to talk about this. "Bruce broke his legs on a mission, Jace took over for awhile. And he was great at it, but he started to overwork himself. I should've told him to take a break." Luke's voice started to shake more and more. "We got into a fight, about me not putting in enough effort. He pushed me away and started to do more missions himself." Luke said, putting his hand over his eyes, trying to hide the fact that he was crying. "One day, he got caught in a fight with Ra's, he contacted me and the rest of the family for help...I was too late." Luke's expression was grim. I understood where his grief was coming from.
I thought about what my dad told me. "My dad told me something I still don't understand. He told me; that with great power must also come great responsibility. I still don't know what that means." I said, Luke looked at me. "What we do is dangerous. Not only for ourselves, but our loved ones as well. And sometimes people die. It's inevitable that you'll lose someone eventually." Luke told me. He put and hand on my shoulder and nodded. He walked back into the manor.
I stood there thinking, about everyone I care about; Cass, Tim, Harry, Ned, Bernard, everyone. I could all loss them one day. I realized what this lesson was about, it was about knowing the repercussions of being Spider-Man. I looked back at the graves. "I'll make sure that there won't be anyone else here." I said, the clouds began to grey, however no rain fell from it.
I crawled up onto the roof and just sat there.
