Nini's pov

All of us sat at the same table as always. We were silent and just listened to others talk about us. They whispered, but if a lot of people around you are whispering the same things, you end up hearing it. 

Me and my friends were quiet. We tried to ignore the people around us but we didn't succeed.

"How can she sit with them at the same table when she knows he cheated on her with her so-called friend?" I heard someone behind my back say. And I knew right away that it was about me. 

"I'm gonna say something." I told my friends angrily. 

"Don't." Kourtney shook her head.

"It must be so embarrassing for the two of them... For Ricky to sit there when Nini knows he's in love with her." someone laughed at another table. I looked at Ricky uncomfortably but he just cleared his throat and didn't stop looking at his food in front of him. 

"Did you know Kourtney is a lesbian? I didn't expect that at all." 

okay that is enough 

"Could you all shut up?!" I shouted at the top of my lungs as I stood up. 

Suddenly people in the cafeteria stopped talking and just looked at me. I got a little nervous when I saw their glances at me.

"Nini sit down." Ashlyn whispered to me. 

But I don't want to be quiet anymore. And even if I wanted to, it's too late now. 

"No.." I shook my head.

I'll just say what I think. 

I took a deep breath and stood on a chair for everyone to see me. "I'm tired of you talking about us because I don't understand how the fuck is it any of your business?! Everything that happened doesn't concern you so you don't have to worry about it! Everyone has secrets! Every single one of you! And how would you feel if we all started talking about your deepest secret now?! Huh?!" I asked loudly but I didn't get a response from anyone. "What happened? Suddenly you are silent?? You guys are very brave when you say shit behind my back but you won't tell me into my eyes? Stop whispering and gossiping about us and start taking care of your own shitty lives! And just shut your mouth!!" I finished and ran out of the cafeteria.

When school ended, I went straight to the school library. I was supposed to meet Brett there to work on our project. The first plan was to meet at my house but I'm uncomfortable being alone with him so I told him to meet here. 

"Hey." I heard a boy's voice. I immediately thought it was Brett, but when I turned to face the person, I saw someone else. 

"Hey Ricky."

"Can I sit?" 

I nodded quickly. "Yes, of course."

"I just wanted to say that I liked what you told them at lunch." he laughed. 

"Yeah um, I couldn't be quiet anymore. I needed to say something." 

"I understand. And.. I also wanted to say that..." he sighed. "...that I'm glad people know my secret." 

"Really?" I asked hopefully. 

"Yes, and I probably overreacted yesterday." 

"No!" I shook my head. "It was all completely my fault." 

"Yeah but I shouldn't have broken up with you because of that." 

"What- what did y-you say?" I asked in a shaky voice. 

"Nini I'm sorry about everything and I would like t-" 

"Nini hi!" Brett's voice interrupted him. "Oh, hey, Ricky." he said kindly when they saw him.

"Hey." I greeted and  Ricky just showed him a fake smile.  

"Am I interrupting something?"

"Yes, you are." Ricky answered him, and I thought it was a little rude of him, and when I saw Brett's sad face, I had to say something. 

"No, Brett, it's okay. Ricky and I will talk later, right?" I asked with a smile looking at him. 

Ricky just rolled his eyes and left without a word. 

Ricky's pov

I wanted to apologize to her and tell her that I want to get back together, but why would I do that? It will be the same anyway. There will always be Brett who will try to stop us and force Nini to give him a chance. 

As I thought about it and walked fast down the hall I accidentally run into someone. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay." the girl replied. I looked at her and saw someone I wasn't expecting. "Hi Ricky." Lily smiled. 

"What are you doing here?" 

"I came for a few more things." she explained to me. "Are you okay?" 

"You're not exactly the person I want to talk to about this." I replied, opening my locker. 

"So it's about Nina." she said and I just sighed. "Let me guess, it's about Nini and Brett. That's why you two broke up, right?" 

"How the fuck do you know everything?" 

"So I'm right." she laughed. "Was it because Nini is going to prom with him?" 

"I'm not talking to you." 

"That means yes." she told me smiling. "You know if you want to make her jealous I know the way." 

"I'm not going out with you." I shook my head with a laugh. 

"I didn't mean that." she said seriously. "Although I wouldn't mind..." 

"Not a chance." 

"But since Nini is going to prom with Brett and you don't have a date if you asked some other girl to prom, Nini certainly wouldn't like it." 

"If this is your way of asking me to prom then the answer is no." 

She shook her head. "I don't go to this school anymore, remember? But there are a lot of girls who would like to go to prom with you. And believe me, Nini would be jealous." 

"And why would I want to make her jealous?" I asked her. 

"Because then she might want to show that girl that you're her boyfriend and she'd tell Brett too." 

"Why are you helping me?" I wondered. 

"Believe it or not..." she started. "I'm not always mean to everyone. I don't hate you. I may hate the others but I don't hate you."
