Nini's pov

Brett and I have been working on our project for a few minutes, but I couldn't concentrate at all. I just wanted to run out that door and find Ricky.

I could only think of what he wanted to tell me.. Is it possible that he regrets our breakup? And that he wants to get back together?

"Nini?" I heard Brett's voice. "Are you even listening to me?"

I shook my head. "No, sorry.." I told him honestly. "I'm not concentrating. I don't know what's wrong with me today."

"It's all right." he smiled at me. "Do you want to take a break?"

"Yes, that would be great, thank you." I said when I took a bottle of water from my bag.

"I understand, this book is not the most interesting one." he laughed. "Let's talk about some more enjoyable topic."

I smiled because I didn't know what was waiting for me yet. "And what topic, for example?"

"Prom." he answered me simply.

I froze at that moment. This is not my favorite topic. I think I'd rather talk about that boring book. But I guess I can't avoid it forever.

"What color is your dress?" he continued. "So we can match."

"My dress uh-" I couldn't even say it because the flashbacks started.

Ricky and I always planned on going to prom together. I wanted a pink dress but he refused to put on a pink tie, so we finally agreed on a red.

And I even bought a red dress... I'm just not going with Ricky.

I wanted us to dance all night, but Ricky didn't like that idea very much, since he's a terrible dancer. And I say that with all honesty. Ricky and dance are not friends, they are enemies.

So I even taught Ricky how to dance. It was fun because he couldn't do it right, so most of our nights together when I wanted to teach him something turned into moments full of laughter, singing and improvised dance on Taylor Swift and One Direction songs.

And the most beautiful moments were when we practiced slow dancing and Ricky gave me a kiss whenever he had the chance. But I didn't mind, even though I pretended to be angry so he would concentrate on the steps at least a little more.

We always imagined what our prom would be like together. That we would laugh all night and that we would just be happy. And that would be just the beginning of our story.

But that story is over now...

I don't understand how I lost all this just because of my stupidity.

It could have been the best night of my life, but I ruined it all.

But... maybe it's not too late.

"Brett, I can't lie to you anymore."

"Hm?" he asked curiously. "What are you talking about?"

"I have to tell you something."

He just nodded. "I'm listening."

I took a deep breath. "I can't go to prom with you. I am really sorry."

"What? Why not?"

"Because you're too nice!" I laughed as a tear fell out of my eye. "You're too nice and that's why I feel terrible for lying to you."

"I don't understand." he shook his head. "When did you lie to me?"

"Brett, I don't like you." I told him quickly.

But then when I saw his surprised face, I realized it probably wasn't the best way to say it.

"I mean, yeah I like you, but only as a friend."

These words of mine made him sad. "Oh.."

"You are an amazing person. And every single girl would be so happy to go to prom with you and I would be too, it's just- it's too complicated. I just don't want you to think that it's your fault because it's not. Maybe if I was in a different situation then-"

"And what is your situation now?" he asked me not understanding.

"I'm so sorry, but I'm in love with someone el–."

"Ricky?" he interrupted me with his question. "Is it Ricky?"

I was scared but I wanted to be honest, so I nodded with tears in my eyes. "Yeah..." I answered him quietly. He just rolled his eyes. "I understand you're angry now..."

"I am not." he surprised me with his answer. "I'm just a little disappointed because I was hoping there might be something between us.. But no one can control their feelings, right?"

I nodded slowly in agreement.

"And you love Ricky. And he loves you." he told me. "So you guys should be together."

"Why are you so nice to me?"

"My mom raised me well." he said, making me laugh. "Now go. Go find Bowen and tell him everything... You are a good person, you deserve to be happy." he smiled at me as he wiped the tears from my cheeks. "Plus I kinda need some alone time right now."

"Okay." I whispered and began packing things into my bag. When it was done, I looked one last time at Brett, who had a small weak smile on his face. "Thank you." I said as I placed my hand on his cheek. "Thank you so much. You are an incredible person."

"I'm trying." he laughed. "Well go now, I'll see you later."

"Yeah, I'll call you!" I told him as I picked up my bag and ran out of the library.

Wow, it's a good feeling to finally tell the truth.

Thankfully, Ricky is still at school since he had a football practice that should be ending right now. So I ran to the gym and met his teammates coming out.

"Hey.." I told one of them. "Do you know where Ricky is?"

"Um, yes." he replied. "I think he's talking to someone in the gym."

"Thanks." I smiled and ran in there, as I couldn't wait to tell him the big news.

"Ricky!" I screamed as I ran when I saw the curly boy. When I was closer to him I noticed the person he was talking to. Next to him stood... some blonde girl.

"Hey, Nini.." he told me without a smile. He's probably a little angry for what happened in the library a while ago, but I hope that mood will leave him when I tell him that I finally was bold enough to tell Brett the truth.

"Um, this is Rebecca." he told me, pointing to the cheerleader.

"Hi!" she told me with a big smile, very happily.

"Oh, someone is really happy." I laughed.

"Yeah.." she nodded. "Ricky just asked me to prom."

Wait what???
