Chapter Ninety-Three
Alice sat down in her chair, rubbing her temples to try and stop the headache she knew would be there at any second. “Don't say that, Blake. You don't know what you're talking about.”
“I'm being serious.”
“So am I. I've lost you too many times already to risk it again. I can't lose you again, I just can't.”
“You won't lose me.” Alice snorted at his response.
“I really don't think that is something you can say, Blake.”
“Look, all I know is that there was more to that kiss we shared than either one of us can explain. And, I want to find out what could happen between us if we tried. You didn't tell me in your story at the park that you and I once loved each other.”
“I didn't think it was important now.”
“A man doesn't have a bracelet engraved with 'all my love' if he doesn't mean it. So if I loved you once before, I'm pretty sure I can do it again.”
“I'm sure you could, Blake. But I'm not sure it's a good idea to get involved with me. We tried it once and completely botched it. And, like I said, I don't think my heart could take it if we couldn't make it work again.”
“Do you still love me?” Alice stopped and thought for a moment before answering. It wasn't that she didn't already know the answer. She just wasn't sure if she should tell him the truth. Sighing, she bit her lip and answered him.
“I'll always love you.”
“Then let me try.”
“Go to your meeting tomorrow, Blake. And don't be late.” Alice stood and left the room, trudging back up to the nurse's lounge. She had the next two days off, and decided to take a little trip. Getting away from Blake would be good for her, both mentally and physically. And, Alice was pretty sure he needed the space as much as she did.
After quickly packing up some of her clothes and toiletries, Alice jumped in her car and pulled out of St. Micheal's parking lot. She had no idea where to go, or what she would do when she got there. But, so long as it was away from New Coven, it didn't matter. She stopped by Blake's house and made sure the girls would be okay. There were only three of them still living there now, and all three of them agreed that they would be fine.
“Where are you going?” Missy asked, flipping through one of her many equine magazines.
“Dunno. Out of New Coven, that's for sure.”
“Work got you down?”
“You could say that, yeah.” Alice found herself unintentionally telling Missy the entire story. Missy was as close to a best friend as Alice had, and she felt a lot better talking girl to girl about her problems. “I just don't know what I would do if it didn't work again.” Alice said, after telling Missy everything.
“You're selfish.” Missy replied, making Alice's eyebrows arch.
“Selfish? What are you talking about?”
“You've got the chance to make the man of your dreams a very happy man, and you're worried you might end up with a broken heart. If I were you, I would drive straight back to that hospital and jump in his arms and beg him to take you back. It takes a very special man to be okay with people like us, Ali. And you've had yours for years now. He finally wises up, and you want to run away. That's selfish.”
“I think I just need some time to think about it.” Alice said, grabbing her keys off the table.
“Go on your stupid trip, but I'm telling you now, you already know what you're going to do. Don't be stupid, Ali.”
